With a Supercarrier carrier, use the LSO or catapult view, move the camera so that the sun and the deck crew are in front, and you can see the crew casting shadows on the water through the body of the carrier

I wonder if a workaround is as simple as setting a shallow Z value for the shapes that represent the shadows so that they get occluded...

It needs terrain shadows to be on to look correctly.

this is a known issue and reported but it is a side effect of using flat shadows
