Will DCS run well on an Intel i5-12600KF & RTX 3060?

Recommended Posts

I'm building up a system for a buddy and this is what I have for hardware... i5-12600KF &a  RTX 3060 plus 32GBs of DDR4 Ram and a 1TB M.2 Drive

Is that CPU & GPU good enough for DCS with high graphics? Im running a i7-700K & RTX 3070 Ti on my system so this one is definitely a bit lower down on the food chain...

Forgot to add he has a 32" curved monitor running at 200Hz with 1ms response.

What's the native resolution of that monitor?
Should be said, people aiming for high FPS/high refresh on DCS should refrain on expectations, regardless of ubber gaming monitor and system specs.

That system will be great for 1080P at high(ish) graphics and capped at 60 FPS. Maybe 1440P, depending on terrain, modules and scenario complexity.

That said, the RTX3060Ti 8GB is quite faster than the base RTX3060 12GB, and is a far better option for DCS.

Also, if it's to play DCS exclusively in online Multiplayer, and even if 32GB of RAM can do the trick, it's pretty much a given that 64GB of RAM will soon after become desired to avoid stuttering (due to RAM full consumption and system pagefile high usage on the drive, seen with ≤32GB of RAM).

Its QHD capable but he is running it in regular HD right now with his existing setup. My Samsung curved monitor is running DCS at full 4K at 3440 x 1440 with a 3070Ti with no issues...

3440x1440 is not 4K. 4K is 3840*2160. That said, it all depends what you consider "high graphics". There are settings that have a rather small impact on performance but a huge on visuals and vice versa. Other settings impact visuals and performance alike. It's all about finding a balance for yourself. Even with a 3080/3090 you can't just bluntly right lock every setting.

With the setup you described, he should be able to find medium to highish settings with reasonable fps (*in most scenarios) as long as he stays away from 4K. There will be occasional bottlenecks though. It's inevitable. Videofeeds, many units, weather, certain map areas.... sometimes the fps just go down, even with high-endish hardware.

Edit:

You may consider a used 1080ti instead of a 3060.

Laptop Dell G7 7700 with Intel 10750H and RTX 2070 Super (8GB) and 64GB RAM connected to 34'' monitor (3440x1440), doing surprisingly well in high-ish settings.

In MP it typically oscillates between 40-60 FPS with occasional drops below. All in all: very playbable

The RTX 3060 should be able to match the mobile 2070 Super easily.

Thank you for that information. I thought 4K was 3440 x 1440... Its the highest I can reach on my monitor and on my 60 inch UHD TV when I use it as a monitor  ...

In addition this is more of a combo gaming and working system for him, running Autocad and for gaming using Falcon BMS as well as DCS. Once he learns the ropes in both he can bump the card if he feels the need... But we couldn't beat the price of only 379 for a brand new 3060 last week.

I hope it does as well as you predict. I am sure he will enjoy and move up to a better GPU in the future.

I looked at some benchmarks and it appears Desktop 2070Super is actually faster than 3060.

Although I have mobile version which should be slower, for safety, please disregard my comment, since there is no warranty it will actually work the way he expects.

Safest approach would be 3090 Ti or perhaps upcoming 4090 Ti.

Good decision!
