A-10 needs constant stick input to keep nose down, trim seems to have no effect

Hi everyone, I just started learning the A-10C (II) and have found it really really fun.

I have a question regarding the lack of control that the trim has, and like seriously it seems to me it has no effect. My stick is at its center position, and the A-10 just HEAVILY pitches up. I am running 100% thrust and I have tried to trim but I get no luck with trimming. I don't have the trim bound on my stick since I come from a airliner flight sim background and I don't have a fancy stick, (definitely not using an A320 stick...), but y'know the binding that is labeled "Hatch switch - Trim" then it has the trims labeled. Well I have that bound and I can see the hatch switch moving but I can't feel any trim difference at all.

If any of you could save my hand that would be awesome and he would appreciate it.

That isn't normal. Check the axis bindings and ensure that you don't have anything else mapped to pitch.

Also, flaps up?

The most common cause is when Options -> Misc -> Force Feedback is checked (set to on) for a non-Force-Feedback-stick.

Very possible that it is this since it is set to on. Will I need to turn this on or off depending on the plane I fly? For example I never had this issue with the F-16 or F-18

Generally off if you don‘t have a force feedback stick.

also make sure that the „game mode“ is off.

On a side note… the A10 requires a LOT of buttons to be mapped to use. Can‘t imagine how that should work with the keyboard. It‘s a real HOTAS plane. If you find DCS pleasing you might think of some advanced hardware.

Yeah I have a decent amount of buttons on my hotas but I still need to map some things to my keyboard. I have room for TMS, weapon release, gun trigger, brakes, and NWS, on my hotas. Slewing, china hat switches, and coolie switches are on my keyboard.

Like Ephedrin said, you can turn it off if you don't have an FFB stick.

I'm not quite sure why this affects the A-10 but not the F/A-18. In either case, there's no need to set it to "on" for any of the DCS aircraft - unless you actually use an FFB stick, obviously. 😉

(I suppose if you had both a non-FFB stick for jets and an FFB-stick for helicopters, you might actually have to switch this on/off depending on which stick/aircraft combo you'd want to fly, but I never actually read from anyone with this particular problem 😇)

Just to describe my experience, I use a MSFF2 for WW2 planes and a Cougar for others and I checked the axis to be sure that the two sticks are assigned completely to a single plane profile. Of course, I have the FFB option checked for the WW2 planes using a FFB stick and unchecked for the others, without problems.

The reason why it doesn't effect Hornet and Viper is simply because the way the input is being translated.

In Hornet's FFB, center of actual stick is translated as no input in the virtual aircraft stick (in the indicator; ctrl+enter the diamond is at the cross between the 2 axis). So, it doesn't matter much if your stick is FFB or not. Center means no input.

In Hog's FFB (and a few other aircraft that I know like Sukhois) the position of the stick is translated 1:1 (and factored with the curve afterwards) so center of actual stick is translated as center of virtual stick which also means the stick is being pulled back (you can check the indicator it will show you the stick is being pulled) resulting in the aircraft pitched up, since it is quite a substantial pull no amount of trim will level the aircraft back.

Learned this the very hard way when I first fly the Hog coming from Hornet with Logitech G940 but flying these aircraft with FFB is a lot of fun.

The only module you have to do this for, is the Gazelle. Which has some strange FFB implementation that doesn't work for me at all. Even when they have some FFB settings in the special menu. 🤷🏼‍♂️
