You can do a non-precision TACAN approach if you want to do that. But just like ILS, it requires certain minimal values in regards with weather to be respected to conduct a safe approach.

If you're on glideslope and have ILS, the Mirage's synthetic runway should take you right in.

Having said that, I personally find it difficult to get that synthetic runway to appear, however... the autopilot landing mode is pretty impressive for that, all you have to do is point the plane in the direction of the runway and keep monitoring the throttle (once you're on glideslope).

edit: sorry, I just realized that the topic clearly states "no ILS"... so... just ignore all this. 🙂

I'm not updating this anymore. It's safe to assume I have all the stuff, and the stuff for the stuff too. 🙂

I jump in.

Made a small costum mission with landing in Kutaisi. I receive from the ATC the order to land runway 270 but i do not get the ILS to work...

Any thougts? Brakets in the HUD are blinking.....

I'm not sure which airport you are landing at ...

Landing East to West
• Kutaisi = RWY 25 (248°M / 254°T)
• Senaki-Kolkhi = RWY 27 (269°M / 275°T)

Neither have ILS when landing East to West and DCS's ATC will turn off the ILS for the opposite directions (RWY 07 / RWY 09).

Note there is a long standing DCS 2.x.x bug that desyncs ILS and ATC's active runway for moderate headwinds (1-6 knots) - so to land on RWY 09 using ILS, you'll need to use zero wind or a +6 knot headwind in your mission.

Comments/tips

The Mirage's Synthetic Runway will not display if the aircraft is not receiving an ILS signal.

As both airports have TACAN beacons, you can use DME (300ft/NM) and runway azimuth to penetrate the cloud base.

I meant 250 sorry.

OK, so if i contact ATC he tells me to land from east to west and turns of ILS compeltely?

Thanks for the wind info. I will check in ME, what i set.

Yes, it's a limitation of DCS.

Oh, okay. I checked it with the wind set ist to 6 kts and now it works. ATC lets me now land from w to e. Thanks.

What i dont get: When i land with the Viggen from E to W i have full ILS support.

The Viggen uses the Swedish TILS (Tactical Instrument Landing System), it doesn't make use of the default airfield ILS systems.

From Chuck's Viggen Guide

Quote

TILS (Tactical Instrument Landing System) is the instrument landing system for the Swedish Air Force, introduced with the 37 Viggen. The system is designed to allow instrument landings in poor weather

Unlike a normal ILS (Instrument Landing System) system with a large aerial array for glideslope and localizer constructed near the runway threshold, the TILS system is a single, smaller unit placed next to the runway.

The system consists of a transmitter unit on the airfield and a receiver unit mounted on the aircraft. The receiver interprets the signal from the transmitter and creates a steering command. The slight offset from the runway heading, combined with a landing waypoint (LB) set by the navigation system results in a slightly curved approach.

AFAIK TILS is a microwave landing system.

TBH, it should probably be a unit that can be placed at an airfield (or even a suitable stretch of road) in ME. IRL, TILS is quite mobile, and in theory you can set it up anywhere you can haul a TILS transmitter to, similar to mobile TACAN and RSBN stations.
