Losing enthusiasm with VR

From what I understand, the supercarrier deck is super heavy with CPU usage

My CPU frametime which stay pretty much under 10 ms most of the time, jumps over 13 ms with three catapults running at the same time and I have an i7 12th gen with a very fast single core speed.  Enjoying DCS with high FPS is not possible presently in all scenarios or for all modules.  The hardware is not there yet, or the graphic engine not enough optimized/up-to-date...  Nevertheless it is still way better for me than pancake, from an immersion perspective!

I use my monitor for starting up Windows and performing two steps:
First step: start Oculus Dash and Teamspeak (for meeting my buddies)
Second: click DCS icon to start over in VR mode

Never in 30 years of playing flying sims I had the feeling "I am there". In DCS using VR I have this feeling. That's all.
I can forget about some graphic details as long I have 45 (or even 90) in my Rift CV1.

One drawback, if any: If DCS starts stuttering (or even performing slideshows for seconds) in Buddyspike, I feel the need to switch over to the MiG-21 and throw nuclear weapons  ... :smartass:

My point was that a CPU at 4.6ghz doesn't guarantee performance.

My old 2500k @4.7ghz would have been annihilated by DCS VR. If I were to couple that i5 with a 3060 in the hope of running high resolution DCS VR I would be sorely disappointed.

I would agree that if you have a weak CPU and/or a weak GPU then it's impossible to hold high framerates all the time in all modules.

You could compromise. I have two different profiles, let´s say profile 1 is VR single player or certain MP simple scenarios. Profile 2 is no shadows, limited visibility range, no AA for complex MP missions, Marianas, Syria or South Atlantic.
Easy to swap, they are just one click away.
Then I have a profile 3, just for monitor screenshots; all maxed up.

Ideal use of the custom profiles, generally because I play SP I'll tune to the worst case scenario and then just have higher performance everywhere else 🙂

Yes, I think that most of us use different profiles.  Maybe that is one area for future improvement:  Make the number of profile unlimited, three options is not enough! (For now at least)

Hmm I never have maybe I should look into doing that. Although really I am only flying currently the Hornet and Apache and really don't see a need for me at least yet to have different graphics profile settings.
