Any hope of giving support to Quest 2 hand recognition?

I highly recommend you check out HTCC(Hand-tracked cockpit clicking), i've been using it for about a week in Virtual tablet mode, and no need to buy Point Cntl if you are using a Q2 with hand tracking on.  The only caveat is the need to run via Open Composite(which I prefer as I also use XR Toolkit)

Hi,

I’ve recently got my leap motion set up. After turning the laser pointers off, I’m actually having a pretty good experience.
Of course, rotaries are still a mystery. I’ve managed to turn them but it’s not very predictable. I’ve read some people have tried ‘Fingers’ app, which I haven’t looked into yet.
How are people getting by with their Leap Motion these days?

very sad about the fact that 3rd party developers haven’t implemented it yet, as i spend most of my time in the F14. We’ll, one day hopefully!

Alienware Aurora R10, Ryzen 5800X3D, RTX4080, 32GB RAM, Pimax Crystal, Winwing F18 throttle, VKB Gunfighter F14 Stick, VKB Modern Combat Grip, Logitech Rudder pedals, DOF Reality H3

I use this mod. I got so used to it that I use it to control everything on the F16, except HOTAS, rudder, Alt. Hold, and gear up/dn. Even rotaries work quite well. I even fly my DME Arc with it, which requires adjusting the course dial on the HSI frequently.

I have the laser pointer on, and the laser only turns on when I hold down the palm button. The palm button activation is necessary, b/c otherwise when the controller is hanging right next to the throttle, it’s quite easy to hit the gear down accidentally.

With the new Oculus Pro controller, drilling two holes for running the wire through is quite difficult without fully disassembling the expensive controllers. So, I bought a pair of rubber sleeves for the pro controller and hang them the same way.

Nice but this method is very hard to do on the controllers for Pico 4....wait, I find some...

Here's the BOM for my mod:

DesTek Quest Pro Sleeve: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BGN3XLG4?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

0.75” quick side release buckle: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09DY14TJ8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

polypropylene Webbing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KTVCZAM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

With the sleeves, you don't need to drill holes... but if you don't use sleeves for Quest 2, you'd have to drill two holes on each battery cover... and make a wire loop for the webbing. I use some aviation stainless safety wire for it.

You don't want to use 1" webbing... too wide... cutting into your palm. 1/2" too narrow... wobbling more than 3/4". I tested all of them so you don't have to.

Has anyone tried this? I don't know if it's been posted before, I couldn't find a thread on it. Edit: Just realised this is the same software as mentioned a few posts above.

I've been using it for over a week, and it works great, especially in Virtual Tablet Emulation Mode(PointCntrl mode which does not require a point cntrl device if you have a Quest 2 with Hand Tracking enabled).

I took a quick look at it but unfortunately it requires an Oculus developer account, which I don't have.

I "dig out" my Quest2 earlier this evening and have a go with Fred's "Hand Tracking Cockpit Tracking". It works wonderfully, even though Quest2 is subpar before Pico4 in the image department, and the "hand" thing is a little too close for comfort. I would very much recommend the user interface because it works wonder, very steady and accurate, when compared to LEAP and using an actual Quest controller. ED, this is what your LEAP support should have been.

I have not tried to see if "Finger", a LEAP mod I think, work with the any non-BT ring mouse. Please correct me if I am wrong. Will report back.

I am not sure now but 2 years ago, getting an Oculus developer account is nothing.

I use VD with Pico4 also. The "Hand Tracking Cockpit Tracking" does show the "hands" when activated. But first, one has to use Pico4 controllers but I am not sure how to bind the buttons, there is not real interactions. Also, one must run DCS in OpenComposite.

Off-topic: if one starts DCS World in Oculus runtime, there should be using the Pico4 controllers as "hands" without any issue.

It's Gesture based in Virtual Tablet mode, which the dev even recommends himself and I I prefer as well. So pinching thumb and index is left click, thumb and middle is right click and you can pinch thumb and ring finger then either move your hand up or down to scroll UP/down for things like radio knobs etc

Following @Hempstead's inspiration, I mocked up something quick with the Quest Pro's controller using electrical tape.

A slightly different take on the strap. It's more like a thumb loop, and using the existing strap to stabilize the tail end of the grip. I could stabilize it more if I replace the existing strap with an elastic paracord I think.

It works super well with the F-16 throttle grip and I am super happy. Thank you so much Hempstead! I

In terms of usage, this is way better than using the mouse, trackpad, OpenXR toolkit, or HTCC. No lag, very accurate tracking, and no unexpected/rejected clicking gestures.

Hmm.... the thumb strap is interesting.... I got to make one and try it out...

Put it this way, Virtual Desktop for Quest2 or Pico4 has no hand tracking cause both vendor have not released any of their own API, as I am told, so no luck. 😞

Did you actually buy a mouse like that?  They're potential malware vectors so I am hesitant about it, but at the same time I need a second finger mouse so I can have one functioning on both hands.
