Flash1606687761 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Just connected up my shinny new Saitek pedals.. Ok.. So I have my left and right crossed up (anyone else not sure which foot to push down??) But I was able to perform to hover landing by holding the bird straight for long periods on the pedals, something I couldn't do before.. It feels like rubbing my tummy while patting my head at the moment, but I can see a lot of fun and a lot more control coming my way with these..
Vortex Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Yeah a few people get the pedals confused at first. I'm not sure why, perhaps it's those billy karts you made as a kid where you pushed the front plank the wheels are connect to to turn. Even a 40 year old professional race driver training at the same time as me kept getting it reversed at the beginning. And yes pedals are a BIG improvement for hovering.
d0ppler Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 when you push right pedal, the chopper should turn right A-10C, AV-8B, Ka-50, F-14B, F-16C, F-5E, F/A-18C, L-39, Mi-8, MiG-21, MiG-29, SA34, Spitfire, Su-27, Su-33, UH-1H
d0ppler Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 No left :) it SHOULD turn right. If you're chopper is moving to the left you should switch it. A-10C, AV-8B, Ka-50, F-14B, F-16C, F-5E, F/A-18C, L-39, Mi-8, MiG-21, MiG-29, SA34, Spitfire, Su-27, Su-33, UH-1H
rmakowsky Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Yes, push right, nose turns to the right.
arthuro12 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 i have this steering wheel.. and pedals came with it.. think it would work? :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
d0ppler Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 i have this steering wheel.. and pedals came with it.. think it would work? :D yes it will. I use the pedals from the MS ForceFeedback steering wheel for rudder pedals. A-10C, AV-8B, Ka-50, F-14B, F-16C, F-5E, F/A-18C, L-39, Mi-8, MiG-21, MiG-29, SA34, Spitfire, Su-27, Su-33, UH-1H
Flash1606687761 Posted December 31, 2008 Author Posted December 31, 2008 i have this steering wheel.. and pedals came with it.. think it would work? :D I started with my Logitech pedals.. What I didn't realise was the Saiteks can be much more subtle and you can hold them easily to counter a cross wind.. It's actually quite amazing :) I want to push my right foot and push the nose around so it goes to the left.. No idea why, but that's what my brain wants to do.
d0ppler Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 I vote for left too. :music_whistling: you can vote as much as you want, but that doesn't change the fact that real choppers rotate to the right when you push the right rudder pedal ;) A-10C, AV-8B, Ka-50, F-14B, F-16C, F-5E, F/A-18C, L-39, Mi-8, MiG-21, MiG-29, SA34, Spitfire, Su-27, Su-33, UH-1H
Haegar Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 I am willing to learn ... give me an evidence, please. I never flew a real helicopter, only planes, but in every helicopter-simulation I used, the nose turned left when I pushed the right anti-torque pedal. I really want to know know that this was wrong all the time ...
Vortex Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 lol I am and many others on this forum have helicopter licenses, I think that's evidence enough
Tango Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 I never flew a real helicopter, only planes ....well you would know from the fixed-wing aircraft that when you push the right pedal, the nose swings to the right. It's the same with a helicopter. :) Best regards, Tango.
Haegar Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 lol I am and many others on this forum have helicopter licenses, I think that's evidence enough  Well, I could not know that you are a real-life-heli-pilot. OK, then I guess you are right.
Chillspider Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 (edited) Im no heli pilot but i see alot of you keep saying heli right rudder pedal. I believe its called a Anti torque pedals. And correct me if im wrong i just thought we should call them what they are seeing heli doesnt have a rudder. Right pedal yaws nose to the right left pedal yaws nose to the left. greywolf134 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Yeah but the black shark has rudders and no back anti torque rotor [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Chillspider Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 i forgot about that . Spartan1-1 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Ive waited so long to buy pedals. There's really no need for them with twist joysticks right? And than I started flying real aircraft. Rudder pedals are king. strannick Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 that sounds like a flight instructor talking!
strannick Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 The Sim wont recognize my CH pedals, though FSX does. any tips? i use them along with an X52
congo Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 (edited) On all aircraft whether they be fixed wing or rotary the pedals control the aircraft about its yaw axis. right pedal yaw to the right. left pedal yaw to the left. On the ground they are generally connected to the nose wheel steering mechanism for taxi and placement unless the aircraft has a castering nose wheel which in this case you use differential braking to steer the aircraft. congo Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 (edited) Yeah but the black shark has rudders and no back anti torque rotor On the Blackshark they are actually torque rather than antitorque as they induce a torsional load about the yaw axis. The Blackshark may have an aerodynamic rudder for forward flight this I dont know but to yaw the nose while hovering they will induce torque about the yaw axis. Edited January 1, 2009 by congo
