Billy Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 I recently played lots of missions with Jester operating LANTIRN. I always feel like, he locates targets too fast, and look too sharp. Is this normal for a human RIO to do too?
Spurts Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 don't worry, it's countered by his inability to actually aim at bridges, buildings, or to simply move to next target after a shack. the GEORGE AI for the Apache is the same, really fast at distinguishing targets at long range. When I tried to do a Top Gun: Maverick style mission I had the joy of rolling over the ridge, pointing at the ground, then having to tell Jester to target the thing with his wheel in front of my face. 1
Callsign JoNay Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 I think the Q-Eyeballs function is a little bit BS, yes. 2

I get WHY they have Q-Eyeballs and the other one (Q-Manual? Q-Direct?) because you can't talk Jester on. These are all areas there a Human RIO are superior. 1
ricktoberfest Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 If we’re being honest here, the AI are just as quick to see, target, and engage us. I feel it levels out the playing field a bit. Do you really think a tank can spot, target, and shoot down a fast moving low altitude target in less than 5 seconds? 3

I think you make an insightful point. There is also (and neither of these are something easy to do or fix or get perfect) a bit too thick of a fog-of-war in DCS, especially single-player. IRL there is alot more communication happening. An entire previous day/night cycle's worth of reporting and battlefield chatter , plus the fact that a 4-ship of jets is actually four seperate, engaged and intelligent, brains all focused on maintaining the element of suprise, the safety of the entire element, and the larger mission being solved. 2
draconus Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 It depends on the place. If it's open field or desert - he's fine. In the woods or urban area - he's way too good. 1 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
