I use faceTrackNoIR for several years now, wasn't aware it had issues ... can you please ellaborate a little more?  Also, I've never had to use any lua file regarding FTnoIR, what is that file for?

It said that it was a fix for the one that was installed  with dcs open world. Maybe you and I can get together sometime and help if get this thing going. I have no idea what I am doing and I have read and watched many tutorials online.

No sorry, just wanted to know what issues did this software had with DCS. I’m currently busy with my own projects and can’t really afford time to check on these issues.

What path do I need to use to install the newer default.lua file to fix all of the face track noir issues?  Thanks in advance.

Can you elaborate what you mean with "issues"? I can't remember dealing with any .lua's when I used FacetracknoIR either.

I can open the software and set curves and everything and the tracking is fine but when I launch the game and am sitting in the cockpit I get no response for tracking except a bunch of camera twitching and it looks like it is auto zooming. I am using a logitech 1080 hd for the camera and it is in the supported devices list.

First, you need to set FaceTrackNoIR to use the "FreeTrack" protocol, like this:

Then, DCS will recognize the device as a TrackIR headtracker, like this:

If you still can't get it to work, post pics of your setup, so that we can try to help you better.

I think I am making progress! I can look in all axis while in the cockpit, just need to tweak the input output values. My problem now is that my pilot is a bobble head doll because I cannot comeback to center. Any thoughts? I appreciate the insight thus far.

question: what are you using as tracker? An IR clip, or your face?

Face tracking is a lot more difficult to process than IR tracking. Make sure that the camera is angled correctly and close enough. Make sure that there is enough light on your face.

I tried FacetracknoIR to get rid of the antennas on my head, but ultimately reverted back to IR tracking.

I tried it once, but it’s smoothness and tracking precision left a lot to be desired. I like the software, but I spent a bit on a proper IR clip and the difference is just on a whole different level .. this is the one I use:

if you have soldering ability, then you can probably built one for half the price.

if you can’t afford an IR clip, then here is a lot of tips for tuning face tracking:

Sorry to Hijack... I'm experimenting with FacetrackNOIR. set it up based on the videos by Juice. So far everything is great but for the shortcut keys I've set to 'center' and 'game zero' are having no effect IN DCS, only while the FTNIR screen is up.

To fix, run FaceTrackNoIR with administrator privileges, like this:

Curious of the 2, FaceTrackNIR or OpenTrack... which is better when used with an IR device and modified Playstation cam?

opentrack is free, so give it try and if it works well for you then you are done. Personally I use Facetracknoir, which worked better for me but is not free, it costed a few bucks.

I'm tryin out both. Realized I had bought FaceTrackNOIR a few years ago but never really used as I went over to VR.

Now I'm using it with a couple home made sensors, one is like the common TrackIR attached to headphones model, and the other I made out of a baseball cap. I think I prefer the cap version, and it works surprisingly well. Doesn't have the way off center HMCS reticle issue I had with the other.

So far I prefer FTNIR. Just wish it had a easier method of binding joystick function to center and toggle off.

Can anyone offer any tips as to "cleaning" up the Z axis action?

Leaning forward in the cockpit, works as expected until I lean forward and look or lean slightly left. Then the camera sort of snaps to looking farther back/down than expected.

Not sure exactly what issue you have, on my FacetrackNoIr it behaves as expected, I can move my head and the viewpoint changes as one would expect, until I hit the view limits of the webcam .. and also the FT software can't look up further than 90º. These are the curves that I'm using:

And here is a video showing how the head movement inside the cockpit looks like. I do'nt usually use zoom within the canopy, as I find moving my head to be enough:

Excellent!
I added about 25 curve to yaw in the DCS axis controls... it's great and very smooth now.

Mucho thanks!
