miguez Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Check this out. Definitely not a new idea, but interesting that NVIDIA is the one putting it out this time. I was wondering if anyone here knew if BS would work well with these, perhaps some of the ED team? Thanks,
diveplane Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 i got a set of these 3d glasses 3 years ago, i quickly sent them back and asked for a refund. i tried them with lockon , frame rates where bust , and i seen no 3d effects through them. imo total gimmick. just my findings with the set i got. https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.

Hi Diveplane, i still have my set of 3D glasses from about that time, 3 years ago. i used them with MSFS and they worked wonderfully. Looking at my plane from an external camera at 10,000 feet was awesome. Anyways, perhaps the technology has advanced enough so that these will be pretty effective. Time will tell.
Gael Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 It's an old technology, I have a pair of ELSA 3D Revelator since 1999 and was not a good investment: · You need twice the framerate. With 30 fps you only feel 15 fps. · You need high refresh rate monitor, most LCD pannels doesn't give more than 60hz and at 60fps v-synced they still shows a trail (that ruins the 3D experience when it mix both eyes' picture). With CRT works really nice but I haven't one to test BS. · You need to set low resolution in order to get better refresh rates therefore lower image quality. · You need twice the power to show the same image quality (but in 3D) and a really expensive monitor with low latency. · Set up them for each game is hard, sometimes developers uses tricks that are not supposed to be seen but nvidia 3D stereo shows ruining the experience. Not all games can be played. · My ELSA 3D Revelator uses small expensive batteries with 4 hours of life. · Mine doesn't work with digital connections like DVI or HDMI, you need classic VGA port.

Chibawang Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 This is actually a really good 3d product: http://www.iz3d.com/ Not perfect, but getting closer all the time. I'd say it's definately worth the money, if you have it.
ddahlstrom Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I had a pair of eDimensional 3D LCD shutter glasses back about a year ago. I ended up returning them, but wouldn't dismiss this technology at all, especially if any of these products are really good at what they do. The particular glasses I had were recommended for use with CRT monitors and nVidia cards/drivers (not sure nVidia supports them anymore). I had an LCD monitor and an ATI card so I had to use their "universal" drivers. Basically, this was enough to show off the enormous potentail of the glasses, but every game I tried ended up having some serious quirk that led to me ultimately getting rid of them. On the other hand, playing games like Oblivion, Lock-On, and a few others introduced a 3D immersion that to this day I really, really miss having (if only the games were actually playable!).
fox_111 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I had a pair back in the days when the Voodoo card where the cat @$$... All it gave me was a nasty head ache and eye strain. I had a model that flickered when plugged into my graphic card... Nasty POS.
JDski Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I had a pair too that came with a video card. They took some tinkering but once you had them set up right they worked great. I did get some frame rate drop, but it wasn't enough to stop me from using them. I used to fly WWII Fighters with them and the plane looked like it was literally comming out of the screen. But I could only wear them maybe a half hour at a time. Not so much from eye strain, but more ear strain because I wore them under a headset. Some games with overlays didn't work out too well. But being Lockon doesn't have them this shouldn't be a problem. I do remember having some issues with IL2 getting them to work, although other people were able to. They really did make some games look awesome, but they also did get uncomfortable. I missed having them, but I didn't rush out to buy another set when I changed video cards.
Prophet Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 The problem with LCD's is that most run @ 60Hz. The means you only get 30FPS per eye. Now that 120Hz LCDs are coming out, they are returning support for them. I am still not going to bother. Wake me up when they have head mounted displays at a decent resolution.

I have been tempted in the past to by a set but I hear mixed reviews. If these are relatively new then I might bite. . - - - - - - - - TO FLY IS HEAVEN. Shrubbo Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 .................. Wake me up when they have head mounted displays at a decent resolution. What he said  Last time I checked it was still mega bucks for something that got half way there. i9-9900K,Z390 Aorus Master, 32GB GSkill Trident F4-3600 DDR4, ROG Strix RTX 2080 Ti, Oculus Rift S. Thrustmaster Warthog T&S, TPR Pedals.
Frederf Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I tried to look for 800x600 wide FOV (90deg+) head mounted displays for under $300. Didn't find any.
MonnieRock Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 (edited) As other posters stated, you need a very high refresh rate on your monitor.Devide what your refresh rate is in half, that is what you will see. ie 120hz/2=60hz. Anything less is headache time. Not possible with current LCD's. Trying to find a CRT is near impossible now.(as I give my big beast a big hug, she has been so good to me) Another factor you must consider is, you must have good vision. If you have lower vision in one eye than the other, stereoscopic technique will not work. for example Amblyopia. The technique is designed for people that have equal vision in both eyes or can be effectively corrected with eyeglasses/contacts. If you have any questions about that, consult your Ophthalmologist / Optometrist. I still have a set of the edimensional shutter glasses(actually, two sets of wireless glasses so someone could sit with me and see) and they were very effective with my CRT and nVidia drivers. My Girlfriend could never get the hang or coordination of a HOTAS, but with those glasses on, she thought it was so cool looking. My Monitor kicks out 180hz at 1024x768. But that was the day, now nVidia does not offer any newer drivers. I miss them too, Ddahlstrom. It was really cool. I flew lockon for years with them. Made all the panels come alive and landing on the carrier a whole new experience. (BTW, I just love the Su-33) Not really sure when we will see quality LCD panels with 120hz or greater refresh rates. The key word is "Quality". Not some cheap TN or PVA panels. Probably very late 2009,early 2010 just guestimating ( is that really a word, I sure use it a lot :megalol: ) Thank you, Monnie Edited January 12, 2009 by MonnieRock Rack Rig: Rosewill RSV-L4000 | Koolance ERM-3K3UC | Xeon E5-1680 v2 @ 4.9ghz w/EK Monoblock | Asus Rampage IV Black Edition | 64GB 2133mhz | SLI TitanXP w/ EK Waterblocks | 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB | Seasonic 1000w Titanium | Windows 10 Pro 64bit | TM Warthog HOTAS w/40cm Extension | MFG Crosswind Rudders | Obutto R3volution | HP Reverb
