mcgrips Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 Finally managed to make the switch from mouse view to webcam head tracking (AITrack + Opentrack), it feels amazing during flight but it's very unconfortable to start a cold and dark plane by turning my neck around to reach the side panels on the extreme sides. I tried using the "toggle track" keybinds in opentrack but it just zeroes in the head position while still not responding to mouse panning
rob10 Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 Since you're using a flat screen, it's always going to be a bit of a tradeoff. Have you tried adjusting your curves so that you don't have to turn your head so far to see the back sides? This will obviously effect when you're in air as well (tradeoff) but may be worth it if you tweak them right.
ARM505 Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Most headtracking software can adjust the curves, so make them non-linear. In other words, normal rates for the most common forward angles so you don't have overly sensitive head tracking for normal ops, but accelerated rates passing the 90 degree virtual point. The 2nd option, and what you asked for, is to check your headtracking software for a key to toggle it off. In the Track IR software for example, to toggle it on and off the default is F9 I think. In any case, this will be in the headtracking software, not DCS. 1
silverdevil Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 on the AC i fly using trackir i have no issues except i need to crane my neck sometimes. it takes some practice. i would guess there is some adjustments needed in your tracker. i know it took me a bit of trial and error before i got it where i wanted. calibrate X Y Z axes one at a time. 1 AKA_SilverDevil Join AKA Wardogs Email Address My YouTube “The MIGS came up, the MIGS were aggressive, we tangled, they lost.” - Robin Olds - An American fighter pilot. funkster Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 (edited) I use to use to set up a few SNAP VIEWS i.e Left/Right side panel , lower front panel etc. You can set up the SNAP views to show the panel at any angle, even looking straight down and zoomed in etc etc. Then you can bind them to a few keys or mouse buttons which you can press and hold whilst using mouse to operate switches etc . Plenty of forum posts on how to set up snap views. Edited November 10, 2022 by funkster
grimm862 Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 You need to increase your curves so slight head movements give you almost 180 degrees, it will be awkward and difficult at first but once you get used to it you can basically look forward and turn your pilots head around without any effort. Definitely shouldn't be having to turn your head to where you cannot see your monitor to look backwards. 1

SickSidewinder9 Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 I have the same problem. I just stopped using it because enabling head tracking seems to disable the POV switch. And it's hard to tweak. And it can be a little nauseating. It's really silly that you can't pause it in game and switch over to POV hat. Kinda like how you can't view center while padlocked while holding view center so dogfighting is weird. IDK, maybe I can figure it out.

POV hat will work when tracker is paused. it sounds like you have them fighting with each other. SickSidewinder9 Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 There is a pause tracker function in game? Because I know there is one in Open Track, but it doesn't allow POV hat binds to work. I'll look again, but I didn't see it.

Because when I pause it, the view just gets stuck centered. Don't really get that. Seems clunky. Like the padlock function! Pauses where I last looked (cool), doesn't enable POV hat. Doesn't allow alt-c mouse look to move around the cockpit either. Edited November 22, 2022 by SickSidewinder9
SickSidewinder9 Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 (edited) started Open AI again to play around with it again and now the game won't pick it up at all. I know randomly sometimes it freaks out and spams TrackIR plugged/unplugged. Is there some other settings I'm missing? Turn computer off and on again? Unplug and plug camera? It's also my mic and SRS pics it up just fine. Can see myself and tracking too. EDIT: I disabled it with the dropdown menu and forgot. Edited November 22, 2022 by SickSidewinder9
