Hinkey Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 The altimeter thousands drum flips digitally rather than rolling with an analog animation as the hundreds drum does. This results in 1000ft inaccurate readings as you approach the next 1000ft altitude. For example, 4000ft and 4999 feet display the identical readout of 4000. MB-339 at just below 5000ft: A-10 at just below 5000 ft: 2
gulredrel Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 Noticed this too, but got used to closer watch at the 100th needle.

The flipping rather than rolling is actually nice (no clue which is correct), but it should occur quarter/half a step earlier with the hundreds digit. 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"

Yeah, you can definitely deal with it once you notice it. You just have to remember when at cruise altitude watching your altimeter instantaneously jumping up and down by 1000ft that your are at the higher altitude. 48 minutes ago, Hiob said: The flipping rather than rolling is actually nice (no clue which is correct), but it should occur quarter/half a step earlier with the hundreds digit. I have no idea which is correct for the MB-339 either. I haven't noticed this behavior on any other analog drum type altimeters in DCS before. I'm pretty sure those are actual physical drums with numbers painted on them being rotated mechanically. I don't believe they jump instantaneously, both for mechanical reasons, as well as the obvious clarity implications of having an instrument with 1000ft error. Maybe the Italians have a different system. 1
MAXsenna Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 Is this similar to the compass doing a 360°? Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk

Is it this or just maneuvering? Haven't figured it out yet but yes, looks strange as sometimes the maneuvers were not too hard to induce such violent rotations. But OT here, we should file a different report. 1

Solution gulredrel Posted March 10, 2023 Solution Posted March 10, 2023 looks like this has been fixed in today's OB update DCS/2.8.3.37556 It's much smoother now. Thanks IFE. 2
