SuDepp Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Ok guys.... topic is the question! I got my BS copy..... got a fast (enough) linux server, got some time...... and Iґm willing to bring a server into service.... Any thoughts how? Scif Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 at this moment in time there is no dedicated software, only way to host is via the multiplayer game launch and setup as a server, make sure u have ports 10308 open though. SuDepp Posted January 17, 2009 Author Posted January 17, 2009 ...so no way on a linux server eh?! :( // Hasi @4,5 GHz @ H100i // Asrock Z87M Extreme 4 // Avirex 4x4GB // PALIT 1070 GTX SuperJetStream // Corsair 350D // Plextor extern // DELL 2407WFP // Razer Lancehead // 2xThrustmaster T.16000M + Saitek Pedals Pro // Oculus Rift // 3x amBX // Win10 Pro x64
GGTharos Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Well, if you can get it working with WINE, kudos to you ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Fish Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 So its probably gonna need to use up another 'activation' to have it on another machine. :no_sad: I wonder is there any intention to make a dedicated server for BS. ? GGTharos Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 So its probably gonna need to use up another 'activation' to have it on another machine. :no_sad: Correct. I wonder is there any intention to make a dedicated server for BS. ? No, but eventually there might be one in DCS (as in, there's none intended for the time frame of the BS module development) down the road. Kurtz Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 While we are on the server topic ive got a couple of questions- 1. Can the server "pause" on map rotation be changed so its on the go by default, unless paused manually? 2. Can map rotation be automated either via time or completion of objectives, so the server would rotate to next map in multiplay folder. 3. Can maps be rotated via commandline? If maps can be rotated via command line, then server administration could be automated both locally and remotely using a programme such as "FireDaemon" asuming we could get rid of the default pause on rotation.
MadTommy Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I wonder is there any intention to make a dedicated server for BS. ? No, but eventually there might be one in DCS (as in, there's none intended for the time frame of the BS module development) down the road. How unbelievably depressing and bleep bleep. Can anyone give me some guidelines on how best to host a coop server. i.e connection speed Vs player numbers. Max number of players possible, how to reduce lag etc etc, it would be much appreciated. I'm considering planning a coop night but not sure it's even worth bothering to do considering the lack of dedicated server software. Panzertard Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 From what I've learned from peers online, is that you could generally use ~1mbps per connection if you wish to maintain proper quality. Allthogh your latency to others may depend on other external factors, you will at least be able to guarantee your part of the hosting with that thumbrule. Altough Im not sure how well this thumbrule scales when you talk about 32 or 64 players, but it should be sufficient for 4-8 players. If this is information is wrong I'll blame the 504vvs Smudge and 159th Fudd .... :D The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
graywo1fg Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 (edited) If you want to run a dedicated server i suggest using this awesome tool :) with this it turns your machine into a dedi and you can have sub admins and everything, it automatically rotates missions and if no one is in the server it auto pauses the game and unpauses when someone connects! the coolest thing since sliced bread :P Acedy is the MAN! the server software tools are here your just not in the right spot ;) so with this linky your problems will be solved http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=667784&postcount=1 Edited June 15, 2009 by graywo1fg 1 Voice of Jester AI Death From Above =DFA= Squadron Discord - https://discord.gg/deathfromabove http://www.twitch.tv/graywo1f https://www.youtube.com/user/Lonewo1fg
Acedy Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 (edited) @graywo1fg: :) @MadTommy: I used my home PC for hosting a 9 player server (incl. server) for beta testing the mod. I am on a 16MBit down / 1Mbit up DSL line w/o fastpath and the gameplay seemed to be just fine, some people even told me that they experienced very good network performance. As Panzertard said though, you have only limited control over player latency and packet loss anyway, which mainly depend on the client-server distance and general network utilisation. If your dedicated server's hardware has a hard time running Black Shark there are a few things that you can do besides lowering details/resolution, i.e. putting it in F10 map mode or setting an FPS limit. @Kurtz: like graywo1fg said, the ServMan mod features some of these things, i.e. resuming the server after mission start and automatic map rotation that's triggered by a timer. And you can set up subadmins that can control the server remotely using the ingame chat console (not via an external shell though). EDIT: just saw the date of that post  Edited June 16, 2009 by Acedy [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] *** SERVMAN SERVER MANAGEMENT MOD V2 FOR DCS:BS V1.0.1 *** *** VERSION FOR FC2 ***

RedRiver Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 (edited) As there are no dedicated server. Is it possible for me to activate another copy of BS as a server and still be able to connect as a player or do i have to purchase another copy? Panzertard Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 As there are no dedicated server. Is it possible for me to activate another copy of BS as a server and still be able to connect as a player or do i have to purchase another copy? It requires another license if you want to play on your own server - two active copies running. If you want to run the server only then you may have to uninstall it from your own computer. So practicly you'll need two licenses. A caveat many of us accepts to continue to support ED. ;) The mind is like a parachute.
