Just want to add few things :
1. Wireless---> go for dedicated wifi 6 router
2. Wire ---> go for usb thetering. I'm too lazy for the details but you can Google it as I did. There's risk BSOD for using this method without enabling encryption ? (Can't remember the exact name). So you have to enable it in VD setting in PC.
The advantage for using usb theter over wireless is lower latency.

Is VD advisable over pico connect

Does Pico connect require Steam?.

Pico connect requires Steam.

VD is advisable over pico connect and not only because it doesn't require Steam: even when used with the Steam OpenXR runtime to level out the playing field, VD performance remains superior to Pico Connect. That said, Pico Connect is a significant improvement over its predecessor (Streaming Assistant), but it doesn't match VD (yet?) performance-wise.

I could not get Pico Connect to, well "connect", so I gave up. Is it worth persevering? I don't use my Pico that much but when I do I use VD.

Not really, unless you absolutely need a direct USB connection. Some also say that colour range and latency are a bit better with Connect. The colour improvement seem to be only noticeable in dark environments. Nice to kill zombies or vampires in other games, not really relevant to DCS unless you mostly fly night missions. The range of render resolutions offered by Pico Connect is also comparatively low. Max resolution is 2560x2560 per eye. That corresponds to VD's "High" setting. For DCS, I can use VD's "Ultra" and VDXR with the same performance (fps, smoothness) as Pico Connect with its lower resolution. It is possible to edit a (huge) config file to increase Connect's resolution but performance then tanks rapidly.

Ciò corrisponde all'impostazione "Alta" di VD.

Thank you very much. And about using PICO 4 via USB port, can you tell me a guide? I bought a special USB for oculus

because I don't want to upgrade wi-fi 5 to wi-fi 6

Thank you. Which is preferable? WiFi 6 or USB via VD? Is it better not to play via the standard Pico USB application? Only VD?

VD has many more settings than the basic app and then requires steam vr.
I honestly trusted and purchased VD immediately

I use a powered ethernet-usb adaptor with a usb extension so only one cable needs to be attached to the headset. The adaptor and other cables are fixed under my desk. Works really well.

Utilizzo un adattatore Ethernet-USB alimentato con un'estensione USB, quindi è necessario collegare solo un cavo all'auricolare. L'adattatore e gli altri cavi sono fissati sotto la scrivania. Funziona davvero bene

I use USB as a connection, with this LAN connection, would it go faster in terms of bandwidth? or it would be the same. Thank you

Not sure. I've not used the usb connection.

Hi everyone,

I've purchased very recently a Pico 4 and I'm trying to set it up, although I'm a tech guy, I never had VR before so I'm out here for help and couple advises. After tweaking a lot I managed to have 72fps stable. This is what I've done so far:
VD in Pico installed and running on 72 fps frame rate, 72 video frame rate, 120 mbps video bit rate, Ultra settings.
VD on pc with HEVC, VDXR, Encrypting local traffic for that stupid BSOD (I'm using a 3.2 USB-C cable with the tethering trick)
OpenXR toolkit installed but nothing really tweaked there.

So as a matter of fact, no matter what I'll do, everything feels blurry in the cockpit and everywhere around, especially in cockpit, like numbers indications, lights etc. It feels like everything is zoomed and blurred at the same time. I get it that it might has to be that I'm running the whole thing in low settings to have these 72fps stable, but I've seen other people on Yt videos having their picture seem crystal clean. So i'm not sure what I'm missing here. On the other hand maybe I'm not missing something as this might be the drawback of using VR...

I'll post my specs and screenshots of my settings rn in DCS. If you have any sort of suggestion to make it look nicer and more practical for PvP servers I would really appreciate your help.

Change Cockpit Display Resolution to 1024 and tick every frame and see how it goes.  I would also not select "Force IPD Distance" - just leave that default.

FSR will also cause some blurriness - you could try cranking up the sharpening a little also.

It's the resolution, You can "tweak" all day... you won't pass that limitation unless you push it.
To have a base line on quality drop for a little bit the attempts on "Performance" and go balls to the wall to quality.
Use for testing at least Pico Connect (free from pico). It's not better than Virtual Desktop but is allowing you to test and see a bigger resolution.

Word of "caution" Pico Connect can only work with Steam VR! So you need to be careful you know how to tweak that out of the way so it doesn't create problems. Don use any super or down sampling in SteamVR. Make sure is set "manually" or "custom" to 100% resolution both in general and video. Usually is the one that reports the actual resolution when you are in game and press the hamburger button on left controller...
Disable any super-sampling, menu smoothing etc all performance eaters in SteamVR. Home... Theater... OFF.
If you need help later I can post some pics with Steam VR settings also.

Put Pico Connect to Ultra+ which brings 3480x3480 per eye resolution - super-sampling
Although the headset can only display 2160x2160 the biggest super-sampling is the better the image.
There is e noticeable difference between VD on Godlike (3120x3120) and PicoConnect on Ultra+ (3480x3480)!
Of course the FPS will take a hit.... You test for baseline Quality here! I stick with it but you can drop it after testing but you need to know from where you go down and how much you are OK to lose.

Drop 72Hz... imho this a big placebo. It just adds flickering doesn't really increase performance. If you have 1FPS performance the fact that the system transmits and receives 90 or 72 copies of that frame makes little to no difference but the flicker hits your eyes. Go to 90Hz.

Have a good Wifi 5GHz is a must or a good UTP-USB-C cable if you can't sustain good Wifi. The cable variant is not better in quality if wifi is already good it just a bit lower latency and stable as a rock. But also the wire is awful...

Just for reference!
A 5GHz network has a top speed around 1200Mbs - base network speed
Virtual Desktop and Pico Connect can work on this network at 150Mbs on H265 (HVEC) codec. This is like the base codec speed... not actually used speed!!!!!!!!
During gameplay this speed varies... usually drops! VD doesn't show it but Pico Connect shows it live and you can have between 30Mbs and 60Mbs on Ultra+ in game in 3D! (not desktop pay attention... desktop view is far lower in Pico Connect and you will see it a bit like an oil paint but it irrelevant)
So think about it... the image looks extraordinary good at 3480x3480 per eye at ~40Mbs!!! Not 60Gbs like the display port can sustain... 40Mbs Mega bits per second versus 60 Gigabits per second 😄 !

I have a Pico 4 also and these are my settings. I don't go for performance. But anyone should test both ends... Performance and Quality and chose where in between he or she accepts to sit. I have 30fps in single player with Pico Connect on Ultra+... good for sight seing and Quality baseline establishment.

After you did this test... then you know and you can chose your poison. 😄

Which GPU are you using if you don't mind me asking? Because these settings, I cannot have them even in 2D... So either you are using a 4090/5080ti/5090 or I need to burn my diplomas...

As for Pico Connect, I did try it but I didn't get much results from it... Especially with SteamVR. I'll try it again and try to tweak it but I don't have that much faith in it.

I have a 4080. The test should be done in a simple single mission as important is to see how much the quality of the plane can be pushed in order to have a baseline. I have as I said 30ish fps on Mariana Modern. About the same on Syria and maybe a bit better in Caucasus. Minimal AI. No battles and no dogfights.
