silent one Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 When I have a mission where artillery is firing the game becomes an unplayable slideshow. Is this a bug ? otherwise it plays fine.
Rhino4 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 That depends.... Some questions everyone will want to know for starters: 1)What is your system config? 2)What are your normal/average fps in blackshark? 3)Which mission/campaign? 4)What, if any, mods have you added to the game? 1
Boberro Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I saw somewhere on forum "patch" for this, but forgot its name. I remember it was done by DarkWandener... Also you can cut-off various smokes if they also corrupt game. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Weta43 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 And what artillery are you using - cluster munitions are individually modelled & can eat up frame rates. Cheers.
ericinexile Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 For me artillery is not a problem but rocket launchers (MRLS) are, particularly when a large battery is firing. I would expect this since that's a lot of warheads to track and blow up but I wish I could lower the effects of just that one system. silent one Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 I had a group of 4 paladins firing against infantry in a mission I made myself. It seems to get really slow when the guns start firing. I think Ive also seen this in missions where theres a lot of missiles getting fired at the same time. The stock mission "battle" is a total slideshow.

In that mission my system goes down on it's knees and start crawling. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I7 3930K. 16Gb Corsair Vengeance 1866mhz. Asus P9X79 Deluxe. Asus GTX680 2Gb. Auzentech Home Theater 3D Sound. diveplane Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 yes the rocket attacks can be very demanding. maybe possible to work the shader models on this. https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
WRFirefox Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 For me artillery is not a problem but rocket launchers (MRLS) are, MLRS is artillery:smilewink: .....just my 2 cent:pilotfly:
ericinexile Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 ^^^^ I've always thought of howitzers as artillery and rockets as rockets. Now I know, thanks Smokin' Hole My DCS wish list: Su25, Su30, Mi24, AH1, F/A-18C, Afghanistan ...and frankly, the flight sim world should stop at 1995.
Chillspider Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I havent noticed anything like that ive had some heavy art by both maybe a slight drop in frames. silent one Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 Anything that can optimise things? this is pretty bad if I cant have even 4 artillery guns in a mission :(
ericinexile Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 (edited) Man I just did Mission 7.2 of the first Oil Campaign. There is a trigger that sets off sky-burst Smerch rockets as you fly over a villiage--which gets completely raized. Wickedly impressive. silent one Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 anyone know a way to optimise / minimise this problem?

Yep it's really awesome, the M270 MLRS rockets are modelled the same :) I recall flying in the 159th DCS server a week or so ago when they were running the 'Battle of Tyrnyauz and Verkhiny Balkaria' mission, flying towards wpt 4 and suddenly seeing black puffs of smoke at my 12'oc high then a massive bombardment of sub-munitions landing in a town just a kilometer in front of me :helpsmilie:

Each Smerch is modeled spinning as it approaches the target area--then the bomblet canister is modeled as it falls to the ground. Seeing how all that metal is accounted for gives one the ultimate appreciation for what ED have done with DCS.
