sliwa0392 Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 Hi, in a mission that I have spent some time crafting now, suddenly all of Smerch started to hit approx. 1 km short of target. There is no deviation to either side, it's just always too short. When I place a point of impact 1 km behind the target then it hits the target. It used to work fine in this mission until a number of playthroughts, in freshly created missions it works as it should. AI skill is set to the highest, the task is 'fire at point'. Does anyone have an idea what is going on?
Flappie Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 Nope, no idea. Can you please attach your mission file? If you don't want to share it, send it to me through MP. On holiday

Flappie Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 Thank you. I can reproduce the issue, but only with your mission. This is what I've tried so far: Not changed a thing: rockets fall short. Moved Smerch group in a completely different location. Deleted the Smerch group and create a new one: rockets fall short. Increased temperature: rockets fall short. Fresh Caucasus mission : rockets fall right on the spot. Fresh Syria mission : rockets fall right on the spot (attached track). I have no more ideas at this point. Syria_Smerch.trk On holiday

Gordy Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 We are seeing similar behavior on The Coop multiplayer servers; we have incorporated a way for player to give corrections to the artillery units, but it's a pain in the neck. Corrections on the order of 500m - 1000m are common, though we see rounds falling long more often than short. When I test it in simple single-player missions in the mission editor, I can't reproduce it; rounds fall around the designated target in an appropriate amount of spread. But in the multiplayer missions, we always miss, it seems worse when the target is farther away, but isn't a simple enough value (range * X) that we can correct for. If the artillery unit is close and automatically firing directly on units it sees, this doesn't occur; in this case the AI brackets the target effectively. It affects mortars, self-propelled howitzers (Msta-S and Firtina), MLRS (M270, Grad, Uragan, Smerch)... every artillery unit I've tried that is performing indirect fire. Once we get the correction dialed in, fire is accurate... but like I said it's not consistent. It seems to vary with distance from the shooter, and possibly with variation in elevation between the shooter and the target.
