FPS Lag spike help?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

live just built a new PC. It’s a 13900k/4090 monster. I’m getting 144 FPS, I’ll get those for about 7 seconds then I get lag spike of about 20-30fps (lasting a few frames) then it goes back to 144Fps (monitor refresh rate) and this cycle repeats.

how can I stop this.

thank 🤟

I’m thinking it might be iCue causing this

Possibly something easy like preload radius set to high eating up ram. DCS can eat 32 gigs pretty quickly, but with ddr5 it should be fast enough to compensate but maybe not.. just a thought.. Usually with32 gigs or less they recommend to setup 32 gig pagefile as well. I have 64 gigs and I’ve seen dcs chew up over 40 at times…  in windows ( at least on windows 11) there’s a setting called hardware advanced gpu scheduling(HAGS,  something to that effect) its recommended by several people to disable that. Not sure what it does really but its something to try.

Thats a massive drop from 144 to the20/30s…. Hopefully someone has had a similar issue that will chime in. It sounds very frustrating. Might run the game with task manager window open and see if there’s a certain app or process thats randomly interfering, or being a cpu hog for those few seconds.

I run icue on mine without any issues but I did read something the other day about icue interfering with some games.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Closing iCue solves this, without it running it maintains 144 FPS with no drops..

I'm even less impressed now. You might want to try switching off VSYNC and see what you get. 144 FPS is pretty poor for a 4090.

Closing iCue solves this,

It's one of the first things i would look into because you find so much problems with it when searching the net but on the other hand, it should not behave like you mentioned.
I have iCUE running (HS70 Pro headphones (sound setup + battery level check) and H115i AIO (fan curves) and i don't see an FPS drop. Do you have anything RGB control running through iCUE?

Do you think that the best graphics card will always provide you with 144 fps?

Usually, the problems start when you use more than 1 software that queries the various chips on motherboard and GPU.

For example, HWinfo64 and Aida64 may start acting up if you also have Asus AiSuite or similar apps from other board vendors are opened up and monitoring. Usually they also prompt you with this at some stage.

Check what else runs and see.

Had a buddy of mine this weekend that was having the same issue and I told him to try and disable HotPlug in the settings. It help and he’s not getting the spike lag issue.
