Modelviewer 2, not working at all...

Hi!

I have recently been having problems with modelviewer 2.

I reinstalled DCS on another SSD as before, to free up space.

But for some reason the Model Viewer 2 application won't start when I try to run it. (as admin)
I can see there is a process running in taskmanager, but it only takes up about 19.5MB of ram.
After some time the usedmemory drops to almost 0MB.
But no screen opens up.

Any Idea what this problem can be? As the application work perfectly before...

- I have tried reinstalling the entire DCS "game" for several times and on different locations, with always the same result.
- Deleted the folders in the saved games folder
- Updated my video carddrivers
- ...

Any idea's on how to fix it?
Any other side programs or driver I would have to update?
Anyone who can check confirm the latest download and DCS install has a working Modelviewer 2?

My modelviewer works fine and I've used it just a few days ago.

Hello. I recently faced the same problem. This program is very sensitive to Microsoft Visual C++ libraries.

Modelviewer 2 does not work with C++ libraries that are included in the DCS distribution

In order to make it work, I had to reinstall windows 4 times)

The algorithm is like this.

1. windows installation;
2. Installing drivers for the chipset and video card;
3. Installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-19 (this particular version!);
4. DCS installation;

I have the exact same problem since a few months. While writing with the ED Support we found a workaround: when i create a new windows user (no admin, dunno if that matters) and run the modelviewer on that account it works without any problems. We were not able to identify the cause tho.

/Saved Games/ Likely has an edModelViewer folder with a outdated path.

 

Rename it, add something to the end of the folder name and re-launch model viewer.

or the qtPlatform files are missing.

I removed the edModelViewer folder in /Saved Games/ a long time ago when i first encountered the problem. Since then there was no new folder like that created.

Are the qtPlatform files part of the DCS Installation? If thats the case then i'd guess they are not missing, since I tried several repairs, a clean reinstall of DCS and once copied a DCS Installation from a PC where the ModelViewer was working to my PC.

If they are not part of DCS, where would they be located?

it would be a few files qwindows.dll, and qtplatform.dll

Does ModelViewer generate a new log when you launch it?

qwindows.dll is within the dcs bin folder, but i cant find the qtplatform.dll.

No the MV doesn't generate any logs, neither does it create the edModelviewer folder

If it's not generating a new .log, then it's not starting up at all.

should also have:
null

Thats what i was thinking. The MV is listed in the TaskManager with about 20mb Ram usage and a bit of cpu usage for ~4 seconds before it drops to 0.

The files are all existing: 

null

ModelViewer will not start due to the wrong version of Microsoft Visual C++. It needs version 2015-19. I had exactly the same problem. I was able to solve it only by reinstalling Windows and installing Microsoft Visual C ++ 2015-19 (before installing DСS).

I had this version installed before the problem came up (2015-2019 - 14.28.29914) and this has not changed until now. My Modelviewer was working until fall 2022, my installed Microsoft Visual C++ Versions have not changed until after i had the problem for the first time. I dont think thats the cause on my end
