Thanks for the update Matt.

Call me old fashioned, but I still prefer to have the physical DVD at home instead of just an activated copy on the hard disk.

Just a short question: Will the DVD be available through your e-shop as well? And when can we pre-order?

Regards;)

Download it and then burn the files onto a DVD. Now you have the downloaded version which you NEVER have to put a DVD into the drive and it is on a DVD.

I never understand this thinking, Downloaded games are the way to go, beats constantly putting DVD's into drives.

Must be you need the printed DVD with whatever graphics DCS puts on the DVD, only difference.

And in the case of BS, if you download it I would guess most of the proceeds goes to ED instead of some % going to a retailer. I bought two copies of the downloaded version to support ED and my habit because I do believe this software is easily worth $100.00.

Me too.

Hope they use like FC dvd, once a week check, or once every 3 days, but not activations.

In that way, they loose one customer in my case, and many others i know.

Basically there is NO advantages whatsoever of purchasing the DVD besides of having a case. Kind of a bummer

Let me put this first and foremost that I would rather support the developer of a simulator directly as opposed to through retail by way of a publisher. I did this back in the day for Combat mission which I ordered online from battlefront and got via snail mail(300pg printed manual included). So why is the amazon price $39 w/ free shipping? I understand I have had the pleasure of flying DCS:BS longer than someone who waited for the retail release, but the pricing schemes always boggle my mind:huh:.

Will there be any printed manuals available for those that purchased the download? Even though I could print it it would not be cost effective. Nowadays it is cheaper to buy a new printer then the ink re-fills. I would be willing to spend a few more bucks to get these manuals that came in PDF format.

There will be a printed manual avaiable which you will be able to purchase on the DCS website.

Ah, now that's music in my ears. I'm definatly buying the manual.

Any ETA on it?

No its not the only difference! Having the real DVD means I can change HDD, reformat computer as often as I want and I don't have to worry about ever running out of activations, as opposed to just burning the download on a CD/DVD you can only install it I believe 8 times and then you have to call and explain/ justify your actions concerning your own computer to a complete stranger in order to run software that you payed for. I will take a physical cd/dvd over download any day of the week. Case in point- the other day I wanted to install my Concorde 1.1 in a new install of FS9 and I was not able to because it could not complete the verification process because Phoenix (PSS) servers were down.

1) There is no limit on the number of times you can install, as long as it is on the same machine.

2) As mentioned in the post linked above, the DVD will use the exact same method of protection as the download, i.e. required activation, with 8 activations and 10 deactivations provided for each purchase.

Personally, I cannot understand the tactics employed here. Hardcore sim games like this are ususally played (and purchased) by more mature people who are less likely to pirate.

However it is already the case where you can pirate this game which gets away from the need to activate.....

Bit harsh to have scummy little ******s have an easy ride, but loyal purchasers to be screwed over.

I agree completely. I am more than willing to support ED and pay for this game - and would do it again willingly. In fact, if they offered the game for free, I woul have paid at least the $50 as a donation to show appreciation.

But a part of me is still irked that pirate versions has none of this starforce bs and, that as someone who is willing to part with money to support the developers, we have to put up with this limitation.
