Thanks CH for your hard work! Especially, for your open manner and honesty on everything. You have done much to educate both modders and non-modders alike and that is the absolute Truth. But, you know what they say... Haters are gonna hate.. Thanks again bud!

The F124 Sachsen Frigate is more or less done.

I was really looking forward to the updated German pack ... but that's for me the icing on the cake ... thanks CH!! Really appreciate all your hard work!

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the DCS Community for putting their support behind CH. It was amazing seeing all the posts thanking CH for all he has done for this Community. I would also ask the Community to throw a few bucks CH's way. Every penny donated goes towards new Assets. Thanks again to everyone who thanked CH for all his hard work!

It's not stupid talk. Outsourcing time consuming mesh work is a rather efficient way of reducing time to market as well as cost. You are correct in the fact that ED has taken upon themselves to create their meshes in-house, which naturally also applies to third parties or them integrating others work. It's their decision, but that doesn't mean it's a good decision. I understand that ED wants to have the native (editable) produced mesh with full rights to ensure the ability to maintain and develop it over time (think source code escrow).

The other part he mentions, about providing tools for 'official modders' isn't stupid talk either. It's been proven rather successful in other platforms.

I know that you're well versed in DCS modding and therefore you're also well aware of the fact that implementing DCS assets takes a lot more than a mesh, so please refrain from calling me a master at duplicating.

That said, let's get back to what this thread is about.

Status update

  • As you might have guessed, there are new issues with the latest DCS update which have to be fixed.
  • I'm getting very close to releasing the updated German asset pack. So I'll do my best to juggle the two at once.

ED doesn’t even do all of their own 3d models, they hire and/or buy from 3d studios as well.  Like you said, it’s an efficient and effective method to manage resources.  Check out this studio, a good number of ED’s assets came from here:  http://www.precise3dmodeling.com/
ED even showcased the C-17 model some years back advertising it coming in an update that never materialized.  I surmise that there was a monetary disagreement. I think 3dReach has done a few DCS models as well.

image.pngAIM-174B for F/A-18C 1.1.0 released!
On popular demand I chose to release the AIM-174B (air launched version of the SM-6 Block Ia without the MK72 booster) for the F/A-18C. It's nothing fancy, it was made to be used with the player controlled Hornet, but will of course be limited by its radar performance. It will replace your AIM-120B and will break IC.

Credits

Thanks to ED for the F/A-18C and its configuration files.

Installation

  • Unpack files in the main DCS program folder (not your DCS Saved Games folder) and overwrite.
  • I recommend using OvGME as it allows for easy installation and uninstallation of the mod.

Distribution model

It's available for download on my site. And as usual, please don't redistribute it!

Disclaimer

This was just a quick side project and I won't spend time supporting it, feel free to play around with the missile configuration to tune its performance.

@ArielSharon I am using the latest version 2.9.6 and have not encountered the smoke mosaic phenomenon. I think it may be related to the graphics card driver. I have only encountered some warships emitting smoke and some not, and there is no problem with the code.

Hello @currenthill,

I assume future capabilities of certain weapons platforms is a much lesser priority on the list of things to mod into DCS over current ones, but I wanted to ask if something like BAE Systems Hypervelocity Projectile (HVP) for 155 and 5 inch naval guns is something you'd consider adding down the road? Seems like a interesting capability if it actually gets put into operation.

As always thank you for your time and effort!

A video on it:

Dear currenthill, thank you very much for your modules. I have been using them for several months. But in recent days, I have a little problem when I download your US and Chinese modules on a new computer. Specifically, some anti-aircraft missiles are twisting and turning like they have drunk fake wine. When I use Chinese modules, the HHQ16 of 054b and the HHQ9B of 055 usually twist and turn several circles before launching. But at least they can still be launched. When I use US modules. The ESSM and Standard 2 of Arleigh Burke 2a and Arleigh Burke 3 usually turn several circles and then fall to the sea. They may even hit themselves and the warships next to them. SM3 and SM6 do not have this problem. I don't know what the problem is. I use the Chinese version 1.1.2 and the US version 1.1.3. I tried to download the data from the previous computer, but the result is still the same. I hope you can solve this problem as soon as possible. Thank you again for bringing us fun modules.

Still no fix for this?

Thanks

Ariel,

Based on your pictures and others saying they have no issues I would guess you have a missing texture for the smoke.   In your pictures the pixelated smoke has the words "missing texture".   Usual cause is the description.lua for the livery has a code error or incorrect file name.  It can also be that during download there was a glitch and all the files in the texture.zip folder did not download correctly.   Again, just guessing, it may be the latter as others are not having an issue.

Yep, as the smoke seem to be the issue, it's a DCS core issue. It looks like issue only appears in the single thread version while the MT version doesn't experience it. But instead you get the extremely heavy smoke effect. 😅

I must note that despite the continuous updates of DCS, the problem of unit penetration has not yet been resolved. Is it that difficult to avoid it? 🤔🙁

What are all those ships doing so close to each other during plane launches? They should be like 10nm away from the carrier apart from the plane guard, if that.

The "ballistic" missiles like the DF-21D or Iskander-M have a really weird flight profile now.

I'd expect a "ballistic missile" to go up to at least 20.000m and then drop down on the target, on my end the missiles fly up to ~5000m and then slowly climb further with the stage 2 booster.

Obviously, this completly kills their range because of drag.

I applied the "patches" for US, RU and CH to the latest Version by just drag and dropping files into the old modpack versions with "replace all", to fix the naval SAM missiles spinning out.

Am I missing something? Is there a different way of "updating to the newest version", if the patch is way smaller then the original pack?

Greetings.
