As I suspected, still CPU bound which is better in my circumstances than the latter IMO. GPU utilization floats between 55 and 70% spending most of the time around 63ish% utilization. This is good for two reasons. One, if multi-threading drops sooner than later I will take advantage of most or all of those gains without hitting a GPU wall or two if MT doesn't drop soon the next 9000x CPU is a pretty cheap upgrade to utilize the 4090 more and get gains there without replacing the entire system. AM5 is bound to be supported through the next or next two upgrades with DDR5 support etc.. Being CPU limited on a platform that can grow (AM5) isn't so bad. AM4 with the 5900x had nowhere for me to move without a complete re-do and the GPU's are getting out of this world in price. Harder and Harder to swallow that pill. Hope this helps someone make their decisions easier. Again, will post videos of all of this. It does help, I was seriously considering just going for my cheaper option of 13th gen with DDR4, and considering I don't own a power station it would be a 13700K. I'll stick with my first plan! Very encouraged to hear your results. Now just got to find a 7950X3D that is actually for sale.... Edited March 10, 2023 by Hoirtel

No 7950's when I got out so settled for the 7900. Shouldn't matter for DCS or most games for that matter. Not sure of any game that scales well. Only advantage 7950 would have for me is not done at home but at work on XEONs. Even when ED rolls out MT, its hard coded and won't scale to 6 never mind 8 cores. 1 AMD 7900x3D | Asus ROG Crosshair X670E Hero | 64GB DC DDR5 6400 Ram | MSI Suprim RTX 4090 Liquid X | 2 x Kingston Fury 4TB Gen4 NVME | Corsair HX1500i PSU | NZXT H7 Flow | Liquid Cooled CPU & GPU | HP Reverb G2 | LG 48" 4K OLED | Winwing HOTAS
ISantus Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Excellent! Thanks for posting your results. I am really excited to hear about further improvements and stabalization that you will likely do with your system, but it sounds like out of the box it is a massive improvement.

Thanks for sharing your settings as I used it to figure out that I mistakenly turned off GDM (Gear Down Mode), because I thought it was PowerDown. For some reason PowerDown isn't available in my bois, but I did find it mentioned in the bios manual. Anyways, here's my settings in case anybody is using the same MB and memory: Nice! You can very likely push further. This is where I settled. I could do 6400 with 2200 FCLK but it required too much voltage to justify minimal gain. This is fine for me for 24/7. Went from low 60000 read/write and 70ms latency on EXPO to that. Now just trying to lower voltages as much as I can. 1 Windows 11 23H2| ASUS X670E-F STRIX | AMD 9800X3D@ 5.6Ghz | G.Skill 64Gb DDR5 6200 28-36-36-38 | RTX 4090 undervolted | MSI MPG A1000G PSU | VKB MCG Ultimate + VKB T-Rudders + WH Throttle | HP Reverb G2 Quest 3 + VD

Depends, most of the time it will boot but in windows I get all sorts of BSOD. Especially if I enable memory context. Lots of people reporting issues on the asus forums. I had to revert to the 0805 bios which was before the x3d processors to be stable. Luckily I only have a 7700x as I am waiting for the 7800x3d. Just surprised your not having the issues as well

That being said, you can't just load the memory profiles and expect it to work in most situations. Fire a screenshot of your extreme tweeker first page. I find the board amazing so far (best board I've ever owned save the prior ROG for my 5900x) but it isn't plug and play so to speak. Glad its working so well for you. The BSODs were just on the basic XMP profile. I didn't do any tweaking till I had it stable on the 0805. The memory I have is the 5600 MT Corsair that is on the QVL list, so I know its compatible. Screenshot wont matter since I am on a different bios now, I will wait till the 7800x3d releases till I mess with it again, maybe by then a more stable version will be out.

Just so you are aware, the profiles are starting points. Doesn't mean they will work or run on those profiles. As an example, my 6400 profile would not post (C5 error) but that is to be expected as the CPU memory controller can't run that fast. You may have to load profile and then pick a slower speed manually to ensure stability. hope that helps. Pretty much guaranteed Hynix A.die at this point. As for QVL, while it helps if the memory is tested, however, pretty much all** Zen4 CPU will do 6200. There's also an option for 4x16 with two 2x16 kits as they don't technically make 4x16. They should have similar maybe even slightly better performance when overclocked than 32Gb kits, as DDR5 presently has little to no benefit from dual rank memory.
