1440p 27" G-Sync IPS monitor recommendation

First things first, do I even need G-Sync? Doesn't adaptive Vsync alredy take care of it?

Second, I'm aiming at a somewhat budget solution but still haven't decided between "cheaper new" and "slightly more expensive used". I'm leaning toward the first option though. Since in Poland we pay the "poor country tax" stating my budget in USD doesn't make much sense.

For a starter reference a new ASUS TUF VG27AQ is significantly too expensive for me.

I was considering something like iiyama-g-master-gb2470hsu which is at the right price.

So basically, I'm looking for the best display that is not far more expensive than the gb2470hsu or is even similarly priced.

 

What I don't care about:

high refresh rates - I just need it to have an equivalent of AMD's LFC (low frame rate compensation to achieve the goal)

HDR - neither real nor claimed

the base - it may well come without it

thin bezels

very low response times

 

Main goals:

obviously - the high pixel density inherent with 1440p at 27"

tear-free imaging even at below 60 FPS

Clarity:

I have a 22" IIYAMA PL E2283HS right now and I endured it for many years but I could swear there's something wrong with the clarity of the image. It manifests particularly with bright backgrounds. I would describe it as the inner surface of the most outer layer of the display... not being clean! It's like it has a very thin uniform layer of fine dust.

I also have a LG Ultragear, 144hz 1440p G-Sync compatible screen. After a few months it developed 3 vertical semi transparent blue stripes, about 1cm wide and 2cm apart from each other, right in the middle of the screen.

I've watched up to $400 and to be honest, what's the point of such rankings without stating Freesync and Gsync models separately for each tier?
Also, I still don't know whether I need Gsync or not... I do have an nVidia RTX 2070, this I know.

I'm not an expert. I do know the picture is very nice, but for the price it damn well better be. DCS looks great, and that was my only goal with the monitor. As far as a 27" screen goes, this one leaves me feeling like I don't need a better monitor. For whatever that is worth. 

 

My info on G-sync will not be as good as a tech-nerds video on YouTube so you should go there for a good explanation.

I see. Both Gigabyte M27Q-P and LG UltraGear 27GP850P are at the same price in Poland, around 1600 PLN, slightly above my budget. But that's dispuited

EDIT:
The LG one has G-Sync though! And I've seen some unfavourable reviews mentioning poor black levels in the GB one...

Take the LG UltraGear 27GP850-B. (own it myself together with the GN650)
It has NANO IPS panel.
The Gigabyte i think hast not.
If IPS then you want NANO IPS if possible!

Nano IPS has better colors. IPS -> AH-IPS -> Nano IPS

I have a AH-IPS and a Nano IPS Panel next each other and it makes a lot difference in colors.

Damn it man You really sold it to me, but it's even more expensive than the LG and GB I previously mentioned. I will still consider it though. I buy monitors almost once per decade after all and the last one was a cheapo.

The prices in Poland are not the same as in the US. Likely add 50-75% on top of it...and then remember the likely lower wages too.

Hey if it´s that cheaper you will be happy with it too i say.

But i can tell you Nano IPS makes a lot different here.

For example if i have DCS side by side on my monitors and look against the sun i can see a lot more details arround there (more color steps) as i would on my non nano ips panel.
On the non nano panel i see like only white blending effect, but in the nano panel i see more colors arround and not just white blending effect arround and can also spot better. i can realy clrear see the difference. Also against blue sky black dots its better.

I get what you're trying to conceive convey. And I'm leaning towards expanding the budget for the display, especially considering the inflation.

One sad thing though is you spend so much money and someone at ED thought it's a good freaking idea to blast us with a hardcoded bloom!

Not sure what this is about, but i play not with HDR enabled.
Also Depth of Field, Lens Effects and Motion Blur is off on my settings.

but i play with reshade. i also tried with reshade makes the color steps possible i can the on the nano panel possible but it is simply not possible.

in this example you would see just more white blending and dont see some cloud structures and colors next to the sun without nano panel like with nano panel.

I've just noticed the price has dropped for the "non-refreshed" variant of the GP model, in case of one of the retailers - by something like 20%. I've just ordered it. Canopy blown, hold on!

Since you own that particular model, could you please share some initial setup tips?

Out of the box it's bright as a star, oversaturated and with gamma too low, with the Game 1 mode selected. It's got no 'Normal' mode.

I installed the LG OnScreen Control (OSC) software and it has a 'Color gamut mode', which I guess would be the 'Normal' mode but curiously this mode, along with several additional modes, is not available via the built-in OSD menus. Also, there was no firmware update available for me.

but I would like to at least hit some initial setup myself.

 

The unit I received has been assembled in Poland this month I hope the place of manufacture is not the reason for that huge (~2mm) gap between the bottom lip of the bezel and the display surface...

Initial impressions:

The 27" display area is huge compared to 22"!

The speed... Man... I specifically said I don't give a damn about fast refresh rates but this thing makes a difference even when browsing. You can @#ng READ WHILE FAST SCROLLING As if somene scrolled a scrolled of physical paper in front of my eyes

 

Problems right of the bat:

1. Switching G-Sync mode from basic to extended screws up the desktop. I'm apparently kicked out to "the second display", with no desktop icons visible.

Hey, monitor settings make quite a difference of course and for sure it is somewhat personal preference what you do like.

I did not download any colour profile or use the OSC Software.
I only downloaded and installed the win10driver, but this makes no difference for colours i think.

This are my detailed settings wich are for my taste the best.

Game Mode = Gamer1
Game Adjust: Motion Blur Reduction = Off
                        Overclock greyed out
                        Adaptive Sync = Off ( i just dont use g-sync)
                        Black Stabilizer = 55 (i did 55 because if i play shooter like hell let loose the shadows are not so black but still not unrealsitic bright. using it for dcs                                                                   anyways.. I would suggest after set the other settings try 50 and 55 and see what looks best for you)
                        Response Time = Fast
Picture Adjust: Brightness = 85
                              Contrast = 70
                              Sharpness = 70
                              Gamma = Mode 4
                              Color Temp = Costum
                              R/G/B = 50,50,50


If you use Reshade and want it look like my screens or like to try it let me know and i will give you my reshade preset.

Please don't get me wrong but I come from the purists camp, i.e. I'm not fond of re-shade to say the least Also, for me as a fresh purchaser, it's just an additional variable. I'll fiddle around with the settings later this week. Starting, as always, with http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/

I've just downloaded the W10 driver. I think my brain crashed on sugar or something because I saw it several times and each time dismissed it "because I'm not on Windows 11"...
I've opened the .inf file and it says the package does contain an ICMP color profile (ICM profile). Maybe even separate profiles for separate input types.

Interesting. Prior to installation of the official driver package I used the built-in windows calibration with no pop-ups. After installation of the drivers I'm getting:
