im wondering if it is possible to change order of WCS / AWG-9 target priority

i have a situation in which i try to engage enemy group with AIM54.

usually ill tell RIO or Jester to RWS, and the TWS auto

TWS auto will start picking up targets and track at 70nm out.

but i dont want to launch the AIM54 so far, so i try to fly closer to target with intent to launch Phoenix at about 45nm.

the problem is that i the WCS/AWG-9 will continue to register other enemy out into 70mn, and if i launch, it will go for the 70 mn target instead of the initial target that i got closer..

anyway i can change the priority, so that i can cycle through targets on the AWG9?

I'd like to see that. Only case I could imagine is that the closer target is cold and the 70nm contact is hot so it's considered higher threat by WCS. Even then I doubt it. If the enemy is within 50nm you can choose 50nm TID range - it should ignore any targets beyond that range in TWS.

Anyway you can only do that sorting in the RIO seat:

Also it's a mistake to wait too long for the shot with the Phoenix. Fly high and fast and throw them far!

From the pilot seat, when i select jester to he in TWS auto....how do I know he has contacts I can launch 54s at without stt locking up one (thus defeating somewhat the value of TWS mode) and chance of surprise..

Valid targets will have priority/attack order number flashing.

They don’t flash. Flash is only for when the countdown for the missile going pitbull. You will see it going brighter as jester hooks and IFF’s them. But full blinking is to notify you of terminal phase where you can bug out because your radar isn’t needed any more.

On your TID repeater in the front cockpit you will see a number next to the target, and a vector pointer with distance cues coming out of it.

Check the manual for details on the range marks for firing.

When you fire the target number will turn into a countdown so you know that target has a phoenix on it.

Another question.  I find myself in pilot seat of F-14 sometimes struggling for situational awareness in terms of distance out bogies/ bandits are out.  Is there a simple place to see this on TID that I'm missing?

If datalink is available be sure to have Jester dial in the Datalink channel. Also you can ask Jester to change the TID range. As well as switch it to various perspectives other than the basic you at the bottom B-scope style.

Other than that, nope. Late 60’s tech. Reports over the radio, what shows up on the RWR, and what the AWG-9 can directly see.

? Flash or go brighter and dimmer?

It’s funny, you do things for a while and you stop actually looking at it. Some day I’ll work up the nerve to clean up the ungodly mess around my sim system.

You can estimate range using the lines on either side of the TID...each line (and each blank space between the lines) is 20 miles.  Otherwise, jump in the backseat really quick and hook the target, and you'll get range and altitude info on the TID.

All flashing is brighter and dimmer. 😉

I'm not updating this anymore. It's safe to assume I have all the stuff, and the stuff for the stuff too. 🙂

Thank you for info!!

You can also tell jester to set the range to a specific scale. So eg lock it to 100 or 200 miles or so, if that makes it easier.
