Cavemanhead Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 I've been using the WartHog for the past 10 years (stopped flying about 5 years ago though so "rusty" with stick programming). Anyway... I have no idea where to start with the Virpil gear. Are there any good 3rd party guides out there like "Chucks", but for the Virpil, etc...? Should I actually try to program functions or can I get 90%+ of all I need just by mapping the buttons in the LUA? I've heard of people having to constantly redo their controls in the LUA when there's an update. Anyway... Any thoughts/tips from keeping them maintained/greased to where/what SW to use to program are appreciated. Thanks in advance.
MAXsenna Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 Get a mod manager. Get Quaggles' mod and Munkwolf's "controls repository", and then just map the buttons inside the control settings for each module. No need for lua. Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk

I have always just mapped my controls inside the game GUI and never really have a problem. I do back them up for safekeeping though on a regular basis, both in DCS and also in Virpil software. 2 Don B EVGA Z390 Dark MB | i9 9900k CPU @ 5.1 GHz | Gigabyte 4090 OC | 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz CL16 | Corsair H150i Pro Cooler |Virpil CM3 Stick w/ Alpha Prime Grip 200mm ext| Virpil CM3 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Base w/ Alpha-L Grip| Point Control V2|Varjo Aero|

I went the opposite direction and have done virtually no binding in-game besides the axes and use stuff like Joy2Key or Joystick Gremlin instead (makes life easier as all my controller kit has been from multiple suppliers). I only tend to touch the Virpil software for very low level things like configuring detents and encoders.
Cavemanhead Posted July 2, 2023 Author Posted July 2, 2023 Hmm... I sold my old rig to my son who plays DCS sometimes using my Thrustmaster Warthog. Really still wondering the best way to go about programming my Virpil stick/throttle. I'm assuming the Virpil SW is really difficult to use but will ensure any joystick files I have will never be compromised by my son's use of DCS and will give the best overall capability to my Virpil HW. Does that sound right?
Burt Posted August 19, 2023 Posted August 19, 2023 Don’t over think it like I did when I first got me Virpil gear. There’s excellent videos that helped me through it. I like to keep it simple.
