Pilot Error or a Recent Change

I noticed recently (since the last few updates) that I am unable to use CCIP for unguided bombs if there is a designated target. I cannot leave AUTO. This wasn't the case in the past.

Let me start by asking the obvious - what am I doing wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong. The previous behavior was wrong and has since been corrected. CCIP should always turn to AUTO while a designation is present.

but but but but but... fine. 🙂

Let me then ask a different question. Say that I have a waypoint that marks a general area where the target may be. How do I visually attack the thing I want to attack? Use AUTO, then last minute undesignate?

Yep. If you want to re-designate and you don't have a WP on it, drop a Markpoint by pressing the MK button on the HSI or SA, while you're still designated.

If you want, but AUTO was the primary employment method for Hornets, even in a dive.

Start your dive in, use the ball and chain to mark the target, then fly to the release cues.
