imacken Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 My biggest gripe about these latest BD TMs is that the instructions/messages disappear so quickly that it is often totally impossible to complete reading them far less attempt to look at the instrument/function in the cockpit being described. The more traditional approach of 'Press Spacebar to Continue' would have been a better way to go, IMO. Again, just personal opinion, but I also think BD has gone too far with the shortening/simplifying approach. I agree that his Harrier TMs were far too detailed, but somewhere the middle ground between them and what we have for the F-15 would be better. What do you guys think? Eaglewings Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 While acknowledging the points you raised against the new training method by BD, I do prefer this quick and concise approach dealing with specific system at a time.I play in VR and it is tiring to reach out for my keyboard and figuring out where the spacebar is every now and then. Perhaps the training wordings can be made to stay longer on the screen. imacken Posted June 27, 2023 Author Posted June 27, 2023 I hardly ever use VR for TMs, but when I do, I must say I find the space bar easy to find - unlike all the other keys! baltic_dragon Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 Hey. Things normally will disappear once you press the given button / switch. If you wait for the instructions to finish and then press it, they will stay on screen much longer. There are a few instances where the mission just continues, but these are usually not in critical moments, but very general parts. But of course I'll keep this feedback in mind. 1 For more information, please visit my website. imacken Posted June 29, 2023 Author Posted June 29, 2023 Thanks but not really true in general. Take the A-A Radar. You describe things like range and symbols on screen, but it's impossible to look at the MFD even once before your descriptive text disappears. Also, the wait for button/switch also doesn't work a lot of the time. Take the same TM, when you give the instruction to select left MFD, do nothing, and see how you say 'great' (or something similar) and move on without anything being pressed. MAXsenna Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 Press Esc, then message history. I use it with Taz1004's "No Pause" mod.Cheers! Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk
imacken Posted June 30, 2023 Author Posted June 30, 2023 Thanks for that. Really useful mod. Didn't know about that. Certainly helps with some TMs - including the ones here - but still awkward with the big message box on screen when trying to look at as display being described. I really don't understand why there is not a standard format with TMs in terms of the mechanics. I am quite an experienced DCS player, but for new pilots, TMs are a very valuable tool and I know that they can be frustrating to use at times. Lots of modules are almost perfect, but a lot are not. 1 Intel i7 12700K · MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 4090 · ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-A Wi-Fi · MSI 32" MPG321UR QD · Samsung 970 500Gb M.2 NVMe · 2 x Samsung 850 Evo 1Tb · 2Tb HDD · 32Gb Corsair Vengance 3000MHz DDR4 · Windows 11 · Thrustmaster TPR Pedals · Tobii Eye Tracker 5 · Thrustmaster F/A-18 Hornet Grip · Virpil MongoosT-50CM3 Base · Virpil Throttle MT-50 CM3 · Virpil Alpha Prime Grip · Virpil Control Panel 2 · Thrustmaster F-16 MFDs · HTC Vive Pro 2 · Total Controls Multifunction Button Box

What do you guys think? Nooooooooooo. As a VR player I hate the 'Press Spacebar to Continue' prompts. Read faster. Laptop Pilot. imacken Posted June 30, 2023 Author Posted June 30, 2023 IMO, even in VR, it's a lot easier to press the spacebar than having to repeat lessons over and over, or to hit the escape or pause button. 2 Intel i7 12700K · MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 4090 · ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-A Wi-Fi · MSI 32" MPG321UR QD · Samsung 970 500Gb M.2 NVMe · 2 x Samsung 850 Evo 1Tb · 2Tb HDD · 32Gb Corsair Vengance 3000MHz DDR4 · Windows 11 · Thrustmaster TPR Pedals · Tobii Eye Tracker 5 · Thrustmaster F/A-18 Hornet Grip · Virpil MongoosT-50CM3 Base · Virpil Throttle MT-50 CM3 · Virpil Alpha Prime Grip · Virpil Control Panel 2 · Thrustmaster F-16 MFDs · HTC Vive Pro 2 · Total Controls Multifunction Button Box
