Manual page 93 :

The R-828 VHF radio is used for communication with a Forward Air Controller (FAC) and other ground force units. The system provides constant radio communication within line-of-sight and it does not require frequency searching and adjustment. The frequency range is 20 - 60 MHz.

What is the use of the R-828 radio?

Is the communication with FAC or ground force units implemented already in BS?

If not - is there a plan to simulate this in the future?

It can now be simulated via triggers and prerecorded audio, methinks.

Then, however, this trigger-sounds's not bound to the radio?

that's something i wondered for myself. afaik, there are NO radiocalls used by any AI controlled units.

the radiobeams may be calculated and simulated i a very complex way, but what for if they are not used in-game?

even when i call the tower, and the tower gives me a response, my human wingmen do not hear the tower. not very realistic imho :)

the one and only function of/for frequencies right now seems to be when there are more than 4 human players on one side. by switching the frequency it's possible to use the datalink feature with almost unlimitet sharks in the air.

(and for tuning in the radio station, i know, but that's not really a very needed feature. a nice one for sure, but not that important...)

I hope for the A-10 module and a full FAC support. :-)

But currently the R-828 is probably not supported/ without linked functions.

@mckee14 Greetings ^^

I want both! :) AI when needed, human when needed :D

I can only guess that it means a vehicle or personnel on the ground being designated as a FAC and transmitting CAS requests.orders based on what they can see or otherwise sense of the battlefield.

It would be hard to create a FAC that could actually give you directions in 'human terms' though, such as:

'See the distance between the last building in the city and the tower on the east road? Let's call this a unit. Your target is 3 units east of the city, on that same eastern road, heading west.'

While controlling CAS attack FAC usually gives directions on target in polar coordinates from named control points.

Control points may be placed on map and named in misson editor.

Do you really want AI-controlled JTAC in DCS A-10C?

Counterquestion: it is possible? :-D

This would be a great idea for a KI conversion. It's a pity having a simulated R-828 without real use.

A combination of Mumble and human-FAC about the R-828 radio would be also a great idea.

Why do you always talk about A-10 and not just about DCS? I thought DCS is the platform to be upgraded, A-10, Ka-50, etc are just helicopters, airplanes, etc. I can't see how you can put something into DCS:A-10 and not become also available in other DCS modules if it's not directly related to the aircraft in itself. Isn't this the idea behind DCS as a platform?

I mean, if there is any kind of IA tactial air controller in DCS: A-10, I suppose it will be also in DCS: Ka-50 (if this military service exists in russia of course).

In any way, it's good news.

Yes, that is the idea. If you prefer it phrased otherwise, that is the intent.

Well, ED better delivers, customers don't understand about intents. Fact is I don't give a damn about the majority of fixed wing modern aircrafts around, I just care about modern helicopters simulations, this is why I'm so interested in updates of DCS overall, not just one or another module. I wish DCS:Ka-50 can benefit from ALL future DCS updates.

Sure, I understand where you're coming from.

Fact is you aren't going to get a different answer until there is one.

Distiler, you've been dancing around this question for a few weeks already and we've answered it as best we can for the moment. ED has learned over and over that plans often change.

Black Shark was going to be an add-on to Lock On, but those plans changed.

ED was going to release the A-10A after Black Shark, but those plans changed.

Would you prefer it if we shut down communication and say nothing until a few weeks before product release? The option is to discuss plans knowing that they might change or to not discuss them at all.

Today, DCS remains a platform to develop new technologies and release independent simulations which are online compatible. This is what ED is working on. We'll know how well it works out when we get there.
