Furiz Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 I really don't like the idea of having something like returned fire in DCS, friendly fire happens in real life so I like it in DCS as well. It is more realistic. MP servers however do kick and ban for such events, they have automated bot that does that, so friendly fire on those servers happens very very rarely, offenders either learn from the mistake and start double checking or they get banned for long periods of time. Either way it works, so I see no real benefit from reflected damage, it is only gonna make DCS more arcade. 1

SharpeXB Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 (edited) Seems like a solution in search of a problem. I don’t thing team killing happens in DCS much at all and if it happens there are ways to identify it easily. Most all the modern aircraft have IFF and there aren’t a huge number of aircraft that look alike in WWII. Again this has happened to me probably once in ten years playing DCS. I don't want to piss experience players off and I don't want to get banned and have to go crawling on hands and knees to beg forgiveness Learning how not to shoot your teammates is a prerequisite for playing online. Learn how to ID aircraft and use your IFF. Don’t ask the devs to make a gamey game system to solve it for you. Maybe this concept is difficult to communicate. I believe OP is in search for something to mitigate the phenomenon of griefing, i.e. acts of intentionally spoiling other people's fun. This happens exclusively in MP. I believe the "reflected damage" was one of many potential cures. To me the point wasn't so much how this anti-griefing is accomplished, but that ED provide server owners some options to activate it, natively. I believe it may well become a critical aspect for DCS that may hold it back it it (some form of anti-griefing, irrespective of how it is implemented) is not offered as a built-in feature for servers.

Ok but then proposed option would prevent you or me or anyone else to take friendly fire, which is not realistic. Since we are trying to simulate real world as close as we can we should be able to take friendly fire. But then again server already have banning systems up and running.

And a griefer does not give a flying #&%! what you want, their goal is to make you unhappy. What would you prefer: having a slightly reduced realism, or some idiot spoiling your fun entirely? That's what this is about.

ED Team BIGNEWY Posted August 1, 2023 ED Team Posted August 1, 2023 folks keep the discussion friendly please. Dragon1-1 Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 (edited) I think this idea does have some benefit, mostly for open servers where anyone can join. That said, "reflected damage" might be way too much effort to implement given that in the new DM the attacker might not even have the same systems as the one being shot at. Right now, friendly fire gets you banned, which I guess is OK. If you want full realism, make a global griefer ban list that would propagate between servers, to simulate a court martial and permanent grounding of the offending pilot. Only for those who do it on purpose, naturally, but blue on blue will get you in trouble even if it is an accident, so I wouldn't mind serious consequences either way, it'd just make it more realistic and provide an incentive to watch your fire. As for griefers, screw them, you want to ruin other peoples' fun, you deserve to be stuck playing SP (or whatever private server you can convince to disregard the ban) for the rest of your life.
