Caldera Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Hey All, I know that there is a way to do a F-15E to F-15E TACAN, primarily for the purpose of keeping track of your wing man. I be danged if I can figure it out though and from my exploration the manual does not describe specifically. I have tried every combination of A/A, TR and REC on the TCN page that I can click through and I am having no luck. Anyone care to help me out? Additionally, I have noticed in the last update that TR and REC must be un-starred for the TACAN of the tanker to work. This have anything to do with F-15E to F-15E? Thanks in advance, Caldera

Caldera Posted August 13, 2023 Author Posted August 13, 2023 OK Thanks! So in the video, Notso is 69x and Casmo is 6x? Caldera
western_JPN Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 In my memory, TACAN A/A Station is a special function only Tankers equip. F-15E might not have Station function IRL. In DCS mission editor, F-15E's "Activate TACAN" command becomes gray-out even added, not enabled. Maybe a historical behavior. Impossible F-15E chasing another F-15E by TACAN. Yes, but we're talking about yardstick function which is very much possible. This will get you range only, no bearing. 1 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
Sealpup Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 Any TACAN set can do air to air ranging. You just, as mentioned, need to have each aircraft on a channel where the transmit and receive are opposite each other. 06X and 69X is one example, but every TACAN channel has an 'opposite' that you can do this with.

Mud Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 24 minutes ago, too-cool said: Please Explain? Thanks TC (New guy) For a yardstick TACAN to work between two aircraft, their selected TACAN channels have to have a difference of 63. So for example: 69X - 6X = 63 90X - 27X = 63 Mud 1 Spoiler W10-x64 | B650E Gigabyte Aorus Master | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | Noctua NH-D15 G.Skill Trident ZS Neo DDR5-6000 64Gb | MSI RTX 3080ti Gaming X Asus Xonar AE | VPforce Rhino + TM Hotas Warthog MFG Crosswind pedals | Valve Index
too-cool Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 What if you have more than 2 in your flight, does the lead choose a Tacan # and all others in flight assign a Tacan thats 63 less or more than the lead? Yeah, either that or they do two pairs with the second pair as section leader and his wingman. Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
VKing Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 (edited) This is an example 4-ship setup where the flight lead can get the distance to his second element, or swap channel X for Y to get the distance to the wingman without having to change any numbers. ETA: The distances are just examples, not any kind of TACAN limits. Edited October 20, 2023 by VKing 1
