Cannon won't fire after a manual or auto-start. (But does work on hot-starts.) And no gun trigger animation. (But cannon trigger does animate.)

1. Cannon won't fire after a manual or auto-start. (But does work on hot-starts.)

2. Also noticed that the cannon button is animated on the stick but the trigger switch isn't. The trigger does fold forward to arm the guns, but after that it doesn't visibly depress when fired.

1. is super high priority. 2. is just cosmetic but should be there for consistency and so you can visually verify your controller mappings work.

In the latest 2.8.8.43704 OB from today.

You have to charge the cannon before it will fire. Hold the button at the base of the grip on the left side for a couple seconds to do this.

That's news to me and I never had to before, is that new? What's the keybind for it called?

Just running a full repair to make sure it's nothing like that, then will take a look for it and get back to you. Thanks.

I just RTFMed and you're right! How have I never noticed this before now? (I almost always manual-start.) Wow!

Still need to verify but there it is in the flight manual...  THANKS @kablamoman!

This feature was implemented 3 or so years ago. Previously we didn't need to do it. I don't remember default name for it but you should be able to find it in stick commands category.

Verified, works. (Yet there's no sound from the cannon charging. Is this functionality that was only recently added, maybe? Again, I'm 99% sure I didn't used to need to do this.)

Would still be nice if ALL the controls that are mounted on other moving controls (i.e. the stick/throttle) were animated (and this is true in all aircraft, right now it seems basically random as to whether you can expect to see a control on the stick or throttle animate - some planes do it, some don't, and some like the 109 are a mixture of both).

Also would be nice to have tool-tips on the controls that are mounted on other moving controls, though I can see why that might be a bit difficult as their "hit boxes" will move around as the control they're mounted on moves.

Anyway, the big issue is solved. Thanks again, @kablamoman!

Charge MK-108 (D).  Seems to default to LAlt+Space.

And yeah, I learned to fly this aircraft well over 3 years ago, so I guess I missed it and just haven't noticed I've been cannonless all this time. (It still needs a sound.)

Thanks guys!

Ah, we all missed it because I recall it was implemented without a single word in patchnotes (as ED does sometimes) and this forum section suddenly had multiple posts with people asking why the hell the cannon wasn't working anymore 😄. Fun times.

P.S. - I think it has a sound, but it's so faint it's difficult to hear over engine at high power setting? Might be wrong, though.

Ah, that would explain it alright. (I read the Changelogs religiously but, yes, all too aware that they don't mention all changes in it.)

I had headphones on when I tried it and was listening closely, didn't notice any sound. (They could just take the cannon charge sound from the MiG-15. They don't have to go recording anything new.)

There is a charging sound, it's just not really hearable with the engine running. Try it with the engine off, you should hear it then.

Will it even work with the engine off? The gun triggers don't. (Is it pneumatic or electrical? I assume electrical as the Germans liked electrics.)

Anyway, let me try...

Yep, heard it with the engine off. (Odd that it has the battery power to charge a gun but not to fire a gun.)

Thanks!

Charging should be pneumatic. Firing is electric but it also works for the Mk108. It wont work for the MG131s because they are synced with the prop and if that doesn't spin they won't fire.

Odd then that we have air pressure before the engine even starts.

Prop sync makes sense, thanks!

That air pressure comes from bottles not from the engine.
