Phantom pit-building right now is really hard.

I don't build pits for specific aircraft, I build them for all aircraft (and possibly even aircraft in simulators that shall not be named).  In fact, based on Zabuzard's screenshot the weapon select is 8 position, so I penciled in a 10 position switch and added 'RIPPLE' and 'SAFE' and can use that with the F5 as well.  Also gives me the 13th position for delivery method.  The 7 toggles used by the F5 for arm/jettison have been incorporated since v1, and also get used for F/A-18 jettison positions and will work with the F4.

It's really pretty interesting how much overlap there is; Air Force and Navy have some different design philosophies, but even they overlap in some areas.

But in the end you are correct.  There are switches in there that may not even be needed; I don't even know what they're for.  Good news is I'm waiting for 8 pin XH headers; they were supposed to ship from GB and never arrived, so now I'm waiting for replacements from China.  By the time those get here and I'm actually ready to build the armament panel the F4 should be on the street, as it were.

After this version (v3) making changes will be disgustingly easy.  Unfortunately to get there I have to stop flying for a couple weeks...  🤪

@Raisuli Yeah, that's the smart way to go about it - multi-module flexibility makes it much more usable in general.  I'm following more of a 'work with what I've got, in a form factor that I can live with' philosophy, although it's very much intended for the Phantom.  My outer panels are squared off, instead of following the cockpit wall in the real thing.  A flaps switch that is relatively close to the right spot, but rotated 90 degrees and built into a franken-panel.  A sim-functions panel instead of a steps position panel.  Small switches instead of correctly sized ones, I'm sure you get the idea.  I think it should work for other modules reasonably well too as you've quite rightly pointed out that there is plenty of overlap.  But a well sorted multi-module pit is probably nirvana.

The F-4 subforum needs a dedicated cockpit building thread, because the one in the Tomcat subforum is really inspirational.

That panel to the left of the throttle in @Zabuzard's screenshot is the first time I've seen that particular variation.  I've seen APU-related switches there instead of the APS-107/APQ-120 switches, and I'm sure on one I've seen the generator master switches there.  The fuel panel seems to have been the most common one, it's identical to the one in the F-4G manual.

It is an inaccuracy in our WIP model. It should have the APU switch there instead of the 2 switches seen in the screenshot. (Its unclear though if we can still fix that until EA.)

lmfao Dammit @Zabuzard!

To be entirely fair, this project has helped me grasp how exasperating and arduous modelling the Phantom must be for you guys and my hat is off to you.

I suppose for some of that you can refer to real cockpit screenshots or even to our cockpit shots we shared on media or even from the trailer.

For reference, this is the pilot pit:

and this the WSO pit:

If you got any question what is what, just ask 🙂

<raises hand>  Oh!  Ohh!  Teacher!

What are the positions on the QTY switch.  Looks like 1-8ish and then some other things.

Thanks!

The manual would be a nice Christmas present. I could go out and get it printed and put in a nice binder and spend my break studying it and taking notes. Hint Hint, Wink Wink.

Otherwise Im a size

Yes, 1-6, 9, 12, 18 and

C: Continous (bombs drop as long as u hold down)
S: Salvo (all selected stations drop one, in a sequence)
P: Pairs (all selected stations drop one, simultaneously)

Yeah, we are aware. The team is working with high priority on the manual and the Phantom. It will be made available once it's done :)

Wow.  That was quick, and I appreciate it!

Since I have your attention, and this is pure curiosity and not really important if you're busy, what are C, B, and A for on the weapon sel switch?  The rest appear to be obvious (which means "AGM-12" probably arms the travel pod...  🙃)

A: Special mode for simultaneous release of CBU, rockets or other dispensers
B: Cancels CAGE requirements, "air to air" mode, radar stuff (same as air to air button in wso pit)
C: not used, essentially a safe "off" position

Thank you very much for your time, and have a great day!

Looks like the armaments panel officially has the highest switch density with 76 switch positions, 4 encoder leads, 6 analog axis, and one LED.  87 control wires.  Takeoff/Autopilot/Countermeasures is second with a paltry 84 leads.

And, just because, the C position is labeled HLY HG now.  Sometimes the only way to get rid of an annoying rodent is the Holy Hand Grenade.  I did forget to change "SWITCH LABEL" to "QTY" and very nearly used Dyno tape to correct it, just on principle.  I do have Dyno tape, but it's black.

No, I don't take this game very seriously.  Probably why delays don't ruffle my fur.

@Zabuzard We eagerly await the manual, to begin to know this wonderful module much better before its release. Thank you.

Out now. 🙂
