So, been browsing for ideas and options for building my own button box

There is hardware enough to be found for whatever function I can think of, but I guess the biggest problem is coming up with a layout, where one solution fits all (especially since I fly VR, where a button glance won't work)

Then I came across this:

Now I don't think anyone will be reconfiguring such a thing every time they switch modules on a regular basis, but the idea alone that you can mimic whatever (favorite) cockpit layout, or build a button box where you can experiment/replace/move switch locations/types without having to painstakingly disassemble everything while trying the best config, sounds like a win to me

I have a pretty good setup now, so I don't think I need that.  But it looks like a very interesting solution.  Will be curious to see where cost lands on it.

Hey guys!

I'm the creator of this project! Thank you for sharing that here!

At the moment, we're in the very early prototyping phase, with hopefully some first user testing coming up very soon.

If you're interested in this project, make sure you take the survey: https://survey.switchology.io/

If you want to stay up to date, the best way (at the moment) would be to follow the youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCq9KwXeugZg62DGg5hLE9FQ

Looks very very interesting and useful. I fly mostly in VR and need several different configurations for left, center and right panels and could see your product as a useful solution.

I will be filling out your survey shortly

Done the survey! @wolkus I miss a dedicated thread here in the forums to keep up with any updates and for people to share panel configurations for the different DCS modules.

Will be ordering my first panel assy today.

Hi @sahararover!
A lot has changed since this thread has been active in Nov. 2023!

Thank you for taking the survey, but it is actually concluded since it served its purpose.

Looking forward to your order!

I just got one of these a couple of days ago and so far I'm loving it.  Basically it's a build your own switch box.  3 x 5 grid of blocks and you buy what you want to put in each spot (they have a mock up tool on their website which works really well and allows you to order based on what you mocked up with single click).  You can rotate each cube to any cardinal direction in each spot so you can do horizontal or vertical layout as works for you and cord comes out one on short edge so you can have it whichever side works depending how you put your cubes in the base.  The 8 screws in the middle hold everything down solidly and if you want to swap out a switch it's pretty simple -- not sure I'd want to change it multiple times a day, but likely <5 min to redo a few of them.  The switches send a button press on both directions (so ON might be button 1 and OFF button 2) unlike the Warthog throttle for example (it sends button 1 for ON but nothing for OFF).  The (ON) - OFF - (ON) also sends a button in the OFF position.  There are a range of other switch types available that I don't have in mine.  2nd pic is just a paper overlay I have for what bindings I have for each switch/button.  I swap the overlay out depending on which plane I'm flying since the bindings are different.  My particular layout was about $270 US, but it will really vary depending what switches/buttons/rotaries you want.   It's about 4" x 7" and body is about 1.5" thick.  Ships quickly from Austria via post office shipping and so far seems good quality.  Plug and play like stick or something, no extra software or coding required.  Well done @wolkus!

Corrected pricing for what's shown -- I had extra's on my order which bumped the price.

@rob10 thanks for your purchase and your extensive review! 🥰

Some points I'd like to add:

  • the layout shown here goes for 278,40 EUR which is (with todays exchange rate) 269.00 USD without shipping. If I'm not mistaken, you ordered more products than are shown here. Maybe you'd like to update your post so people don't get a wrong impression on pricing.
  • Shipping is quick to anywhere but the US, which keeps the package in US customs for weeks without updating shipping status. I strongly recommend choosing express shipping options to US customers because those express services also go through customs within a day or two.

That's a fair point, I will do so.  You are correct that I did order extra stuff and while I did knock off what I was thinking the "extra's" cost, I forgot they were the expensive parts so I didn't drop it enough 😳.  I should have looked back to see exactly where I ended up with what I pictured.

I have just put this one together.
Using it to sit behind my throttle and I believe it has plenty of utility for various planes.
So simple to put together. I put it together while the kettle boiled for a cup of tea. It's that quick!

It's really good.

£200, but I've got a lot of switches there.

Being able to configure it to what you want is pure genius. Every button box I looked at was just poorly laid out for what I wanted.

You can set the switches to different orientations, if you look I have the centre at 90 degrees, for the engine crank.
