cwarre9 Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 I just upgraded my CPU to an I7 4790K (4 x 8). That's the only change. I'm using an HP 32Q 1440 monitor that's spec'd at 70hz refresh rate. I upgraded the CPU hoping for better performance (less lag and stuttering). Seems to be helping. However, as soon as I'm in the cockpit, even without clicking on the "Fly" button, after a few seconds I get a high pitched squeal coming from the monitor. It sounds like an alarm of some kind but I can't find anything on the HP site. It only does it on 2.9 beta. The stable version seems to fine so maybe something to do with the Nvidia stuff? The HP 32q has AMD Freesync technology installed, but It's turned off. So is VSync in DCS. I'm at a loss here. I'm thinking it's some kind of alarm telling me I not driving the monitor right, but it didn't start until after the CPU change. Installed the latest driver from HP didn't help. Nvidia driver is up to date. Any thoughts/help is appreciated. Cant' fly with the monitor screaming at me constantly.
Flappie Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 Unless you play DCS in 720x400 pixels, your monitor frequency should be 60 Hz according to your monitor manual. Is it set to 60 Hz in Windows? ---
cwarre9 Posted November 25, 2023 Author Posted November 25, 2023 No it's 70. Thanks I'll try that. I did find that the alarm sounds whenever GPU use exceeds 90%. Thanks again. This stuff is way smarter than I am.
Flappie Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 Oh, then maybe the alarm comes from a gaming software? (MSI Afterburner and the like) ---
cwarre9 Posted November 25, 2023 Author Posted November 25, 2023 The sound is coming from the monitor itself, not through the computer speakers. I changed the refresh rate to 60 hz. Great screen image and everything runs fine until I hit the 90% rate. Not sure how to reduce GPU use when CPU and 32 GB of RAM are at 70+ %. I'll run 2.8 stable until they push Nvidia stuff to that. May have to just give up at that point. Retirement doesn't allow the kind of equipment it appear DCS is moving to. Appreciate the help.
Flappie Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 I don't believe your monitor is able to figure out when your GPU reaches 90%. There must be another explanation... You can open a support ticket: log into DCS website, click "Support", then click "Create a new ticket". You don't have a UPS, do you? 1 ---

cwarre9 Posted December 8, 2023 Author Posted December 8, 2023 Sorry, just noticed your reply. Not sure where it's coming from. But it only happens when GPU use exceeds 90%. I lowered graphics settings and it has stopped. There's some "buzzer" device in the monitor somewhere .

rob10 Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 That really sounds like a hardware issue (or failure) rather than an alarm. Might be one of those things that only some people hear due to their hearing. 1
Solution cwarre9 Posted December 12, 2023 Author Solution Posted December 12, 2023 As soon as I drop below 90% GPU utilization, the noise stops. Have the same issue with MSFS. As long as I reduce the graphic settings so it runs below 90% I'm fine. Appreciate all the feedback.
