Red_Pilot Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 (edited) Why are the trees on this map always like this in the winter season? After all, in this region most of the winter they will look more like this Or such a comparison And if such darker trees would be here, then you could easily get a late autumn by simply adding to these trees on the existing autumn map Those trees that are there now remind me more of the northern countries and regions In warmer regions, you can see this for several days after a snowfall under certain conditions, but IMHO usually not for very long By the way, compare the color of the snow. Don't you think that in the DCS in the Caucasus, the snow is slightly yellowish or pinkish compared to what you usually see? Edited November 26, 2023 by Red_Pilot
draconus Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 Because you can't expect yet another season textures added to represent every possible weather state. Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
Red_Pilot Posted November 26, 2023 Author Posted November 26, 2023 But I don't expect all possible weather conditions. I expect prevailing conditions. Well, it's the end of November, it's snowing outside my window, the street thermometer shows -5 degrees.celsius. But the branches of the trees are mostly almost black and this will be the case most of the days of winter. It looks like the trees on the map rather reflect the stereotype that everything should be white in winter. And by the way, I don't believe that residents of Novorossiysk, Sochi or Poti or Kobuletti have ever seen so much snow in their places throughout the winter, which is on our map of the Caucasus

Look, you're right about the black tree branches most of the time in lower places but the map, as the name implies, is mostly about Caucasus - mountainous region - and higher up there the trees really are white during winter. Making it realistic means adding complexity - different trees and their textures for different places. Devs have choosen this set apparently. Even "Better Trees" mod have them all white as I have seen. I'd like to have them better and more realistic but since you just asked and not sent it in a wishlist, I just answer. 1 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
Ironhand Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 I don't know. When you set similar lighting and contrast conditions, it's not all that different: Given that the Caucasus climate runs from temperate to subtropical to glaciated mountains, it'd be impossible for one set of seasonal trees to cover it all, as draconus notes. So compromises needed to be made. My "complaint" would be that autumnal leaves remain on far too many trees. But I don't imagine that's going to change anytime soon. 1 YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU1...CR6IZ7crfdZxDg _____ Win 11 Pro x64, Asrock Z790 Steel Legend MoBo, Intel i7-13700K, MSI RKT 4070 Super 12GB, Corsair Dominator DDR5 RAM 32GB.
TheFreshPrince Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 Basically the whole map needs to be overdone to look more realistic, so I wouldn't complain about the trees having white branches. But this phenomenon depends much on the weather conditions and tree type. On a sunny day, without deep freezing temperatures, the snow will easily sublimate from the dark branches with its low albedo, especially after it hasn't snowed for a few days and especially on deciduous trees. So you would need different textures for different conditions and those need to be loaded accordingly to the mission settings. And as mentioned also different temperature settings for different heights. That would be cool, but complex. And then the question is, where do you start and where do you end with the implementation of more realistic weather physics and textures. I think it's okay as it is, but a start would be to have more 3 dimensional snow textures instead of flat snow.
