I've been inputting the squawk on M3 then if you press the MC button on the right-hand side of the scratchpad M4 lights up in the SRS overlay.

No idea if that's correct, but that's how it seems to work in/with SRS anyway.

I assume that's a placeholder SRS decided to use while waiting for for correct way to get added

I was just looking for a post like this. I wouldn't mind having IFF up and running but don't see how to yet. I have a Mode 2 code on my kneeboard but can't put it in...

IFF code 2 can't be change. it's your personnal plane code.

you can find here, in french, a vids about how it works :

In summary, there is 2 systems on your scrachpad :

IFF it's what your plane is sending (code 1 to 3,  - code 4 A/B is on the left pilot : A is the day's key, B is the day's +1 key) : you need to box (stars) what mod you want to send (except for mod4 : use switch). Be careful in pvp : it's possible to find a plane whitout radar with IFF, if IFF mod 1-3 are used.

AAI/EID are two program used to interrogate IFF plane. Both AAI/EID act as same, except that is possible to couple EID to NCTR (if NCTR is on) : when you launch EID program, you use NCT too. For bind, it's long coolie left for AAI, long coolie right for EID. short right for manual NCTR. short left coolie to reset NCTR track. Like IFF, you need to box what mod you want used for scanning : mod 4 for friendly/unknow, or mod 1-3 (be careful if you used more that 1 mod : scan stop after first positive reply). Without code for mod 1-3, all plane sendind an IFF M1-3 will reply (cercle on your radar + text), friendly or not. To find a specific plane with specific M2 code (or a specific plane with spcifique mission code M1 or M3), you need to enter code + C. ex : to find a plane with 5000 M2 => 5000C

It's also possible to activate auto IFF when you are a track in your radar : in EID or AAI programm, set auto id STT (for automatic when radar is in STT) or PDT (when STT or in TWS). better is to set auto-PDT in EID programm, because in EID you have also NCTR system. So in AUTO-EID-PDT, when you enter in TWS mod (or STT), plane make IFF mod 4 automatically and if your contact is hot, you also have auto NCTR. pretty cool.

I forget a point : now you have a text in radar screen when plane reply to IFF : text is like +/-CodeH/L :

+ => positive to IFF asking.

code : iff mod, ex : if you send EID mod 4A, you see 4A : +4A if friendly, -4A if unknow (~ennemy)

H/L : Hight confidence or low confidence.

so friendly will be like +4AH, ennemy like -4A

Other think : be careful if friendly is close to ennemy, ennemy can respond +4H (because you see friendly respond), so nctr is useful to find exactly what plane you have lock.

last think : there is a bug in last build : first lock in stt show friendly for ennemy... make your first scan in TWS or do a manual scan first
