Is the AP really supposed to be this "janky"?

Ok, so most of the time when I enable alt hold, it never holds alt (yes trimmed for level flight)  Sometimes cycling AP helps

God forbid I set an altitude, cause it rarely holds that alt.   Set for 20k, heads down ... look up a few moments later and I'm at 30k.

Don't get it, tried everything even trimmed out at 20k, set AP and then it does to the moon Alice.

With regards to steerpoints, it works most of the time, but trying it with tacan boxed it gets pretty confused, sometimes trying to follow a previous steerpoint.

Missing something other than cycle on/off a few times to get it to take?

The most recent RAZBAM manual still notes the TACAN mode of the autopilot is not implemented yet.

I know they've played with the altitude hold gains, but it still does seem a bit off.   I've found messing with pitch trim after the autopilot is engaged helps, so I wonder if it has problems when you're not exactly trimmed to 1.0G before engaging it

Ah, well that explains the tacan issue...but yeah getting AP to work reliably is a pain.   Kinda reminds me of the Harrier's system at launch being a bit touchy

The autopilot also turns the aircraft sharply to one side as it approaches a waypoint, then turning sharply back on track once it switches to the next one.

And yeah, setting altitude can feel like a bit of a dice roll. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

One thing that always gets me is the Master Mode I am at the moment: the AP works well in AG, NAV and INST master modes, although are not perfect in holding altitude.

In AA master mode it does not follow waypoints nor hold altitude, and that is by design.

Yeah, i've had that experience too. Would be interesting to know if there is a genuine bug or I just haven't read the manual enough and there is some criteria i'm not meeting when it doesn't work.

For me the autopilot works perfectly almost all the time, sometimes it can start pitch oscilating at very high altitudes and sometimes a few wobbles when reaching a set alt but that is rare.

The trim, after correcting the pitch up happening after flaps up, also is totally care free until landing.
