Hello.

Years ago there were requests here in the forum for a Viggen JA-37 Mod D. Does Heatblur Simulations have future plans to redo the AJS-37 to a new standard like the F-4, or make a new JA-37 when the Kola map is done ?

I doubt that such a development would be profitable ….  if I were Heatblur, I would develop instead the Grumman A-6, as the potential customer base would be so much bigger, for a comparatively similar development effort.

There is also the issue of documentation, because afaik there is no publicly available documentation on the JA-37 radar and maybe other systems too.

That doesn't look like it includes the radar and its functions...
That's usually in a seperate more classified manual along with the weapon systems.

fighter variant as extra paid version of base module could be worth it, while you may say that US plane would sell better, there is additional factor that learning Viggen to have 2 diffrent planes could persuade players who dont have Viggen to buy one and learn it, it's rather common opinion that Viggen is very diffrent from other planes we have in game, and Viggen knowladge not really carry us easily into other planes, this can be a turn of for people with less playing time.

I wouldn't be too surprised if it's possible for the F-35.

With the F-35 coming and all the "cannot do, no documentation, we don't 100% exactly know what the wiring of the light bulb for the left navigation light looks like" gone and substituted by "we think this is how it works because we saw it in a YouTube video", can we now please have a JA-37? 😂

I know that you are probably just joking, but having documentation is just one of the items needed to develop a DCS aircraft .. almost as important is having market demand, ED needs to sell enough copies to at the very least cover the development expenses. So, it seems doubtful to me that a relatively unknown aircraft would sell well.

Yeah, lots of irony was intentionally used there, but still, I think the F-35 case shows that all the "we don't EXACTLY, like 110% EXACTLY know how the system works so we cannot do it" point is moot now (and I think it already was before because I never bought that 110% realism claim anyway... to me that was just marketing - just look at the early RWR symbology of the M2K or the Gazelle,...). so the whole STRIL-60 datalink thing that was always brought forward by avid forum guardians as to why there could never be a JA-37 in DCS could be taken a little more lighthearted now I guess.

Additionally, the Viggen is HB's baby, not ED's, and I think when they created the AJS-37 as their first module they didn't have sales figures in mind primarily, as didn't OctopusG with the I-16 or AvioDev with the C-101. Some modules are simply a result of passion and a labour of love. Now, seeing that HB makes a family of F-14s and F-4s (and Aerges created a family of F-1s), it wouldn't be far fetched to ask HB for another member of the Viggen family.

That said, I know what they already have on their plate, so I wouldn't put my hopes too high that we'll ever see a JA-37 in DCS.

"D" AMRAAM truck wariant may be a imposible to model in reasonably realistic way due to common datalink with Gripen. And it wouldn't fit the timeframe anyway.

But 1980s Cold War JA-37C with Skyflash missiles and its ultimate sniper-gun would be great! Counterpart to all 1980s modules like MiG-29 9.12, Tornado IDS, F-14A/B, A-6E, MiG-21bis, Su-17M, A-7E, Mi-24P, Mirage F.1, Bo-105, Gazelle L etc. Perfect for Cold War Gone Hot over Kola Peninsula and declassified for highly realistic simulation.
