robnpat Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 My first post. I was searching the web earlier this week about any new military sims and happened upon the DCS: BS site. I gotta say, it does look sweet. They are saying the release here in the US is April 7, so I can't wait until it comes out (on DVD, not download). Anyway, looking at the various youtube videos and reading some forum threads about this 'sim' is making me drool. I have been playing BF2 and flying those heli's just to help pass the time by. Seconds seem like days!! Well, just wanted to say 'hi' Specs: Ryzen 7 3700X, G.Skill Ripjaws 32MB DDR4 3200, Samsung 970 M.2 SSD 250GB, Samsung 970 M.2 SSD 500GB, FireCuda 1TB SSHD, ASUS RTX 2060 Super OC'd, TrackIR, Thrustmaster T16000M HOTAS & Pedals

NismoRR Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Yeah, I'm anxiously awaiting the DVD as well. I just built a new PC mainly for BS and Rise of Flight, so I'm excited to finally see BS in action. I wonder how long it will take to take off, hover, and land. :) I'm not sure what the availablility will be in stores like Gamestop/EB, so I might just put in a pre-order at Amazon over the weekend.

Zakk Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 "They are saying the release here in the US is April 7, so I can't wait until it comes out (on DVD, not download)." Why don't you just download it and have it now  1 Gigabyte|Q6600|8GB DDR3|GTX285|Win7 64|X-65
Safari Ken Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I downloaded Black Shark, and I am glad I did. However, I might buy a DVD copy as well, just to support the team a little. I want to do everything I can to encourage this kind of sim, which is why I've been talking it up to everyone I know who would even might be interested. Screenshots and enthusiasm are great sales tools.

I personally don't know anybody other than myself who can fly this chopper, let alone do a manual start. So I don't bother mentioning it to other gamers unless they ask. Over the 20+ years that I have been PC gaming, I have seen a major decline in good PC games in the past several years. I have always been a big fan of the Battlefield series, and am looking forward to BF1943 this summer as we wait on the Wart Hog to come out. I was driving in the Nevada desert one morning many years ago on an empty stretch of highway when 2 A-10's dropped out of no where below the 1,500 foot cloud ceiling and lined up to make a simulated gun run on me. I just about sh*t my pants and will never forget it. I am a former Marine Ordnanceman on the F/A-18 and have been exposed to every military A/C but most of them were PARKED. I have seen first hand, LIVE, the destruction capabilities of the F-18, but nothing compares to the 30mm gun on the HOG! Thanks again for all your extra efforts--this sim has been an extra sigh of relief, and your enthusiasm helps ALL of us to continue to get great software from DCS. Safari Ken Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 How does buying the D/L version not support the team? Cuz this way I support them twice! :) That's how happy I am to have an actual good combat sim again. We need to encourage this kind of behavior... I personally don't know anybody other than myself who can fly this chopper, let alone do a manual start. So I don't bother mentioning it to other gamers unless they ask. Well, I couldn't do those things either, before I tried. ;) It's true that it's not for everyone. People who say "yeah I love flight sims, I play Ace Combat all the time!" probably wouldn't like it. But I have a bunch of friends who love the IL-2 series (many of whom learned of it from me, in just this same sort of way, actually). I just make sure to let them know that it's much more complex than IL-2, but that the rewards are well worth the practice!
