I am new to DCS and borrowed a friend's Oculus Quest to see if VR was for me. The headset is set up using the USB 3.0 link and I can hear audio from the sim through the headset, but the headset video freezes at the DCS loading page. The sim is still working properly on my monitor, but I get no VR video on the headset.

Any suggestions/tips are greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the help.

I enabled OpenXR , enabled dynamic bitrate with ODT, and increased by Swap file to 32768.    The VR headset still won't go past the "Loading DCS" message. Sim still works, audio in headset works.  Very frustrating. Anything else I should try?

Try pressing the  button to center the headset view? Default is numpad 5 (?)

Did you try a another VR ( free) Game ( pc vr game with link ) ?

Last time i got black screen in headset was due to agressive settings in link, so i suggest to reset all settings to default and run without external tool or Mod ( no ODT): stock stack

And check that ´unknown source game’ is on in occulus home

Thank you all so much for the tips.

Good news and not so good news. I got the sim to run in VR, headset worked fine when I finally figured out how to use the oculus tools to bring up my desktop.  (I am a newbie to both DCS and VR 🙄) But now when I open my desktop in VR and launch DCS, the VR display goes black with the spinning hourglass icon, and my monitor displays this DCS Crash dialog box. I try to use the mouse to click on OK (or Cancel) but the mouse pointer disappears when it gets in the proximity of the box!!!! I have to launch the Windows task manager to close DCS to get out of it.

The sim launches fine in 2D and the DCS Crash box does not appear.

How can I either stop the crash box from popping up or select Ok or cancel to get past it when it does?

Thanks again for all your patience!

On my side, i launch DCS from the shortcut on monitor screen (DCS mt version) and not from within the headset …

check that you are using the DCS multithread version

now you get an error, you shoukd provide the DCS log to DCS support, or post here too

It might not be the same thing but I had this issue when running xrnecksafer and steam VR. It might be worth checking what open XR layers are enabled.

@4romeodelta: do you run DCS in MT in VR with OpenXR and with Turbo Mode turned on? Could cause a crash in DCS MT when the headset is taken off/or inside out tracking is lost. When it happens then the only way out is through Task Manager

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

Thanks for all of the tips! Fortunately,  my crash log freeze problem has not been recurring. I am not sure why, but I suspect it had to do with an unstable USB connection on the VR headset end.

Now I am dealing with some horrendous 'stutter" when in VR especially when in the supercarrier module.   But it sure is cool when working properly!!

Stutters could have a windows root cause

Flappie has written in this forum all windows settings to allow best DCS VR experience

about DCS, try ´vr settings’ tab or lowest settings ( texture resolution and AA technics to off , no shadow )

Follow up on my problems. I got it working very well using the Open XR Toolkit.....all just in time for the Oculus update to V63 to screw it all up!   😞

uncheck the PTC in oculus app and it will roll back to v62.

Having a similar issue with my Q3.  DCS runs great for about 10-20 mins, then the game freezes.  This more frustrating that that time that girl tried to guess which hole the shape fits into.

Tried the Q3 again this morning, with limited success.  I'm using a direct PC link (Cable) via the Meta Quest Link App.  The game was running fine for about 10 minutes then my PC froze.  I was unable to run DXDIAG at the time, but I did run it after restart.  I was also running SRS and playing music via web browser (Google Chrome).

I'm looking to pick up a new Router so I can run the headset wirelessly as people are suggesting it runs better on wireless than a direct cable link.

Didn't help.  I'm leaning towards a disconnect of some kind.  When my G2 disconnected, the game froze as well as DCS doesn't have an in game toggle between VR and desktop mode.  However my USB ports aren't on any power saving plan and I'm using a USB hub for everything but the keyboard, mouse and headset.  Or maybe it just doesn't play well with Metas software.

Either way, I've got myself a mystery and I really want to figure this out.  Would you know of any tools that can log what's going on behind the scenes in the game?  I'd like to run something like that at the same time.

Thanks.
