Qcumber Posted February 17, 2024 Posted February 17, 2024 (edited) This is a bit of a longshot wish list but what aircraft would we need for the invasion of Crete 1941. It would be a relatively easy map to make and the majority of aircraft could be developed in "flaming cliffs" style with a flyable Spitfire mk V and 109F2? I know using these low fidelity modules are a contentious issue but I think it might be the only way to make DCS into a realistic WW2 sim. It might be possible to simulate this with Cyprus on the Syria map and a far fetched use of Spitfire mk IXs and 109 K4s. Ju 88s too but otherwise the plane assets are a bit limited. Are there any third party mods/skins that could be used? E.g a c-47 with a ju-52 skin!? razo+r Posted February 17, 2024 Posted February 17, 2024 There won't be any flaming cliffs style aircraft in DCS anymore. And to be anywhere near a realistic 1941 scenario, we would need a ton of new assets and aircraft. If you take the current development speed into account, it will take decades before we would see anything remotely resembling 1941 in DCS. 4
Mr_sukebe Posted February 17, 2024 Posted February 17, 2024 For FC3 style WW2, you’re better served with that other WW2 combat sim. 3 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat
Slippa Posted February 17, 2024 Posted February 17, 2024 Would need German Paras too. If they sorted those out, I’d join the thread-starters going bananas asking where our flyable C-47, Horsa gliders and Paras were too. 3

ED never has promise a flyable C-47. I think need some new 3rd parties only centred on WW2 plus Octopus-G and on the side, Magnitude 3. ED was very clear, no more FC3 aircrafts on DCS W. Slippa Posted February 17, 2024 Posted February 17, 2024 I don’t mean FC3 either. We do need devs. I don’t mind if ED’s employing them or there’s a 3rd party arrangement, so long as they’re bringing us quality props. Crete would be cool to fly about but we’re in desperate need of a Lord Beaverbrook. Better, 3rd party ‘cottage aircraft factories’. Should we start donating old saucepans and the like? 3

Crete would be cool to fly about but we’re in desperate need of a Lord Beaverbrook. Better, 3rd party ‘cottage aircraft factories’. Should we start donating old saucepans and the like? Remember, a third party is building assets for WWII with an asset team (Magnitude 3), but not a European theater, just like the ED WW2 asset team, which is now focused on the PTO (Octopus-G has not confirmed any World War II "ET" asset teams yet, and Ugra Media has never talked about one). The donation does not make asset construction "faster", in fact another third party (RAZBAM) with another asset package team has talked about building only quality ships, it will take many months just for one of them. AI planes have the same situation: quality 3D models will require months or years of work, and "completing a set of planets" will take many years. In addition, it must be approved and meet the quality required by ED. A “KS solution (RRG)” don't work, we need more 3rd parties with asset pack teams specialized on WW2 zones and / or armies. Let's remember that when Magnitude 3 talked about making the Iwo Jima map (which unfortunately, did not create a map team and was left in the drawer) for the F4U, they were already talking about its PTO assistance pack, and about that, It was many years ago, until we have seen them both in their development images, such as in the latest "2024 and Beyond". You have to put everything on a scale, and see the pros and cons. And no, we cannot come with "comparisons" of other products. Qcumber Posted February 17, 2024 Author Posted February 17, 2024 Wow. This got more discussion than I expected. As I said it was a real "wish" of a wish list. Not anything I really expect to happen. That said, I think it's a shame we can't use DCS to it's full potential. Some early WW2 modules would be great. Maybe Crete will be possible when the world map is available. 2 9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64Gb RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4). Maybe Crete will be possible when the world map is available. Let us remember that Nick Gray has spoken that after the F6F Hellcat, his plans are return to ETO and make modules of the Battle of Britain, with which we could have a Spitfire Mk.I, Hurricane Mk.I, Bf 109E and who knows if Bf 110C, Gloster Gladiator and a Bristol Beaufighter, and bombers such as Ju-87C, He111H, Do-17Z, Ju-88A and a Bristol Blenheim (That last, after the release of Whole earth technology), and associated assets units. Many of them match with a Battle of Crete map and / or others theaters. 3 For Work/Gaming: 28" Philips 246E Monitor - Ryzen 7 1800X - 32 GB DDR4 - nVidia RTX1080 - SSD 860 EVO 1 TB / 860 QVO 1 TB / 860 QVO 2 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Warthog / TPR / MDF

I’m not the messiah, I’m a very naughty boy. If I were and if I could do miracles, I’d drop your list in as airstarts for all of us 200ft above Crete. I’m enjoying what we do have and I still have modern modules to learn. I would, if I could ever get out of my props. 1
