My speed tops out around 175, how can I get my KA to go faster? I've noticed in some missions you are directed to go faster.

I am running U.S. Imperial. I have also tried mapping some controls to my Saitek AV8R joystick but when I boot up it defaults to other controls. Also, if using DCSmax u can't earn medals, can you? I know...noob questions.

They are giving you speed in metric, so it's time to ditch the imperial. ;)

You are not a Jedi and this isnt the empire strikes back. This is 'Merika. We do things the "Merikan way. Keep metrics with the rest of the world, we dont need their junk.

Well everything fits better in meters, my friend. ;)

The whole american scientific community works with the metric system and they started several partitions to finally ditch the "imperial junk" because it's such a pain in the arse. Maybe if the rest of the world uses it and even americas brightest heads use it you should rethink your opinion.

This kind of arrogance does not let you go faster than 175, I think.

If you live to fly again, it's a successful landing. The plane being able to fly again is just a bonus.

The Imperial system is entirely irrational anyway, with units based on the variable human body with no solid relationship between each other. With the metric system I don't really care which length they chose for the meter (it's the distance crossed by light in 1⁄299,792,458'th of a second, btw, if that helps :P ), but the fact that it scales very easily.

It's really only when you start having to bother with AU's and up, or get down to planck lengths, that you cannot easily use units based on simple multiples or fractions of a meter.

Speaking as an American or 'Merikan I guess in LEET talk (?), this numb nut speaks for himself.

Well, it's roughly an arcminute along any latitude meridian, though it's current international standard is 1nm=1852 meters. So once again it's not a simple mathematical multiple of a basic unit and that's the main advantage I see with the metric system.

I can definitely see it's advantage for optical navigation though, but it's still not part of a system that scales.

EDIT: I shall however conceed the point that it is part of the imperial system yet is not body-based.

Its funny how the equations work in standard formulas.

1kt = 1nm per hour

1nm = 1.156 miles

1kt = 1.152 mph

I dont know quantum physics or nothing, but somethings wrong here. Since when does taking more time to travel from point A to point B equal the same time as going from point A to point B slightly faster? Yes, Kevin prefers Metrics. I refuse to measure myself in cm, run marathons in meters, and driving km. It over values yourself if you think of it that way. I got a 15cm whoohah. I was driving my Fierro at a nice 130km/h. I weigh 50kg. This is just the point I get to. Otherwise, its easier to use metrics when it comes to precision mathematically. Everything is in multiples of 10.

Well, that's just a matter of what one is used to. (Though tbh man, 15cm whoohah ain't nothing to show off with... :P ) I've only used imperial three times IRL, and that was when on the road in the UK, so the "higher numbers" phenomenon of the metric system doesn't really appear.

And in the UK there's a bigger problem in them silly buggers thinking that left is right... :doh:

Oh, and the british habit of giving weight in "stone". If it's any consolation, the brits are worse than you yanks. ;)

Exactly! Thats my implied point! It may impress the ladies at first...but 2+2 always will equal :megalol:.

And IIRC, that stone weighs 1kg. I could be wrong, I usually am.

Posted (edited)

1 stone = 14lb = 6.36kg

We changed fom Imperial to Metric back in the 70's (trying to forget we were ever part of "The Empire").

I still think of people's hight in ft & in, but metric is a way more sensible & transferable system for everything else.

(Even my grandmother came to recognise it made more sense :-)

Meters in the SI system are the functional equivalents of yards in the Imperial system (I mean you use meters like yards. 1m ~ 3.25 ft (1.08 yards)), everything else is driven off that.

for physical measurements it's all much simpler.

10cm cube = 1 litre

1 litre water = 1kg

1 cubic meter of water = 1000kg = 1 tonne

Water freezes at zero & boils at 100

blah blah blah...

Cheers.

No way I'll ever use that. :P "Yeah doc, I weigh 8.66101744 stone." :P

And fair enough on your point there hitman, but you just need to wholesale switch the entire country to use metrics. It's simple! We swapped and it only took like a hundred years to grow on everyone. :D
