Constant crashes... Tried everything.... help?

Hey, I have been having some pretty extreme crashing in DCS over the past few days. I have reached out to both ED support and asked on the discord, but nothing i have tried helped. I'm getting the error DX device removed. Reason: 0x887A0006 (see attached file) and then a crash. Sometimes i can get a hourish of gameplay in, sometimes I crash instantly, I haven't been able to make much logic out of it.

I have tried a registry edit, full DCS install, full driver install, editing my NVidia and windows control panel settings, repairing windows, messing with my DCS settings ect ect.... Pretty much every possible thing. My GPU works fine in all other games, and overclocking or heat is not an issue (i have even tried pretty aggressive downclocks)

If anyone could please take a look and give some advice on what i should try. Anything is appreciated. thanks! (please let me know if any other info is needed)

Have you ruled out hardware issues? GPU getting hot perhaps?

Are you running any overclocks? On GPU, CPU or RAM?

If so, set it to default and see if the problem persists.

Sorry, didn't read carefully enough.

Just be aware, that a tuned system can run fine in one program and crash in another. Every software loads the system differently.

What about CPU and RAM?

Well, I’ve only stumbled in here and I’m no expert with these things, other than I’ve suffered with it too but…

Have you tried repairing DCS? Also, renaming your saved games folder? If not, maybe try those, see if it works, save another log once you’ve tried doing those and post again if you still have trouble.

More than likely one of the more computer literate around here will have you sorted soon, just letting you know what I’d try.

Good luck with it and welcome to DCS 🙂.

There have been problem reports lately with intel 13th and 14th gen cpus.

One of the issues being, that mobo manufacturers not respecting/ overwriting TDP and watts/amps.

Maybe take a look in that. But I'm shooting in the sky here.

JayztwoCents has a video where he specifically digs into how the intel problem shows with GPU errors.

Where's @Flappie @MAXsenna @Rudel_chw or @Hiob When you need them? 🙂

To me it looks like either  a Hardware or Windows issue, it does not seem a DCS issue since the crash occurs within a DirectX 11 dll

A Hardware issue also seems unlikely, since he says other games work fine, so that leaves Windows as the most likely cause.

The OP is using Windows 11, dont know exactly how he repaired it, but if it were my system I would try to repair it by doing a Windows 11 upgrade to the same version, the procedure is:

You can download the Windows 11 ISO from this link:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11

When that ISO file downloads, double click the ISO file, then run Setup.exe and select the Upgrade option, this way you won't lose any of your data or configuration, but the windows DirectX files will get reinstalled.

Sorry. System diagnosis from a distance is hit and miss.

I can only say, what I would do.

Can you give us a little bit more detail on your system? Maybe post a screenshot of your GPU settings (Are you running Afterburner?)

Since you have a 13th gen Intel, I would go to the bios and check the power settings (make sure, the Mobo didn't exceed the CPUs specs), reduce the loadline one bin and just for testing deactivate XMP on the RAM), in short, make it as stable as possible (don't rely on "load optimal defaults", check the power limits yourself!).

Check if your GPU is sitting put in its slot and hasn't sacked or warped.

Reduce any +MHz you may have applied to your GPU, but keep the voltage up, don't overclock the VRAM.

Don't feel save regarding hardware only because DCS is currently the only application crashing. Every App loads the hardware differently.

IF(!) the problem goes away after the hardware checks, you can re-apply your settings one by another and check each step.

Cross reading your log file, it seems you have process lasso running. Try to deactivate all background applications, including process lasso, whilst trouble shooting (incl. your AV if you are comfortable with that).

The basic idea is to delete as many variables as possible and run the hardware as stable as possible to rule out any issue. Once the problem is gone, you can re-apply everything until it crashes again - then you'll have found your culprit.

Hey, quick update as to what i've been trying. I tried the windows repair with the ISO, and although it seemed to help initially, I am still crashing (see attached new log). I've run long CPU and GPU stress tests and both seem to be fine power wise, i have tried to downclock the GPU and it dident seem to do anything. I'm still messing around with some of the BIOS settings that were mentioned, but I still need to do more testing on those. Having process Lasso seems to also not make any difference. If all else fails my next step was to try a different GPU. I think I still have a old GTX 970 sitting around somewhere...dcs.log I'd like to just thank yall so much for your suggestions, this seems to be an extremely persistent error and i'd be kind of lost without advice, Thanks!

Yeah, mystery errors suck big time.

Maybe it‘s faulty hardware. Luckily it‘s rare, but it does happen.

Good Luck!
