I can shoot Grom while pointing the nose towards the target. But when I want to lock the target, I see on the radar screen that the target is locked, but the piper on the HUD is not actually locked on the target.

The pipper's direct position isn't a good reference for the Grom. Place the pipper slightly above your intended target and lock there, instead. I can swat tanks, trucks, you name it without much effort.

Truthfully, the RP-22 of the MiG-21bis can't lock for the Grom, it was added for fun. So, this isn't an intended function of the MiG-21bis even though previous Fishbeds could.

Isn't it related to combination of special options and mission settings after one of the patches years ago? More details at the end if this thread:

 

i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

There are multiple issues in this video actually.

After the version 2.9, objects and textures are loading with a delay.

My gameplay gets stuck all the time, although I've got 30-50 FPS just like before in the previous 2.8 version when my gameplay was smooth.

AI aircraft that took off turn right, then apply air brakes, and crash into that hill for no reason.

The first Grom I fire without the lock, it follows my nose up and down while I guide it.

The second Grom I first lock, you may notice the green light and the radar display when it is locked, but the piper won't lock, and the missle goes stupid just straight into the ground with no guidance.

I hope you can check if I have set up everything correctly. When I select ground weapons operation, shouldn't the piper move to the lower position? But it remains in the upper position.

Provide a .trck file, I should've specified. It's the file type that replays are saved as.

The aiming point on the HUD is not the pipper but it's the smaller 'x' on the net, slightly lower then the pipper. When you lock the target that target position will remain locked for the GROM. The pipper does not move anymore now. From your replay it looks like the GROM does exactly what you tell it to do.

I didn't save the .trck file, but Wrcknbckr provided the solution.

Yes you are right, I have tried it once again, and the lock is on the smaller and lower x on the net.

Why did they change that, if the option of locking Grom is still unrealistic, at least I want to see and be sure where have I locked.

My guess is that wasn‘t an intentional change, but another glitch in the code caused by an update, but it was too insignificant for M3 to fix it. Fixes and improvements for the MiG-21 are in fact really rare, M3, being a very small team obviously, have their hands more than full with the Corsair. It’s really sad, an important aircraft like the MiG-21 needs more attention.

Hi! It works for me, I can lock the target with Grom using the small x. Maybe check your setup, did you press Enter for lock, were you aware of the exact spot you aimed at, etc. One small error can make it not work.
