In VR, the head position seems to be different between JHMCS and HGU-55. E.g. with JHMCS it isn't very difficult to see and access exterior lighting panel, however with HGU-55 the viewpoint has been shifted such that the exterior lighting panel cannot be seen or accessed from any angle whatsoever.

Greetings. I have noticed some inaccuracies with the F-16's JHMCS unit of the helmet. And since you guys are probably going to revisit the USAF's pilot model for the upcoming Full Fidelity F-15C I would like to point out these to the modellers so they can maybe fix it for the F-16 and F-18 or maybe take it into account when making the F-15's pilot model if revisiting the pilot models for the 16 and 18 is too much trouble. For That I will compare the in game shell to one that is completely 3D scanned, thus making it much more accurate.

1st - the shape is off by a bit.

The sides of the helmet are supposed to be a bit more rounded. The shape of the one we have in game is a bit more pointy, when that shouldn't be the case. I have highlighted the part I'm talking about in green color for you to see it in more detail and see that what I'm talking about actually applies.image.pngAlso talking about the shape, you can't help but notice how big the helmet's "forehead" (The gap between the visor and the top of the helmet highlighted in red) is in game when compared to the 3D scanned version of the helmet). The visor doesn't go that far down in real life. So it would be impossible to find such a huge gap in real life examples.

2nd - The velcro on the top of the helmet shouldn't be there.

The helmet represented is an HGU-55. This velcro is a modification present on the HGU-68 the US Navy uses, not the Air Force, which makes me believe this was a leftover from the Hornet's pilot model mesh. I think this has already been reported, but just making sure to include it here in case it hasn't.

Moreover, there's another much less important issue with the helmet that I think it's worth mentioning here. The blue felt visor protector cut is a bit too big. This is a mod made by the squadrons themselves to prevent the visor from getting scratched on the top of the helmet. Now, they don't normally look like in game, where you have it going all the way to the top of the helmet. In real life it normally ends where right near where the top of the helmet would start, as you can see here:

Now, I'm well aware that this is mostly nitpicking, but I figured that since the sim is so well done when it comes to detail, and ED takes pride in that, I could help achieve an even further level of fidelity when it comes to the pilot models, since they are very well done as well (and still work in progress according to ED).

That's mostly it, thank you.

I will bring this again to the team, for the sake of continuing the discussion. However, it has been said several times that our JHMCS models have been designed and reviewed using internal sources and SMEs. Sometimes shapes differ between models, as mentioned before.

I've raised this situation with the developing team and after analysing what was presented, we maintain that we are satisfied with our JHMCS 3D model in our DCS: F-16C and DCS: F/A-18C in DCS World. Some minor items, such as the missing rear cable, may be addressed in the future.
