AAR with external tanks - tanker telling transfer complete too soon ?

Recommended Posts

So the last AARs i did with 2 externals i found a bit odd.

I connected with empty bags and around 6.5 total fuel left. Transfer was good until at around 10.0 the tanker told me "transfer complete - disconnect".

I wondered: "how ? 10.0 is not even a full INTERNAL ?"

I then called again, went into precontact, connected again and got my 2nd drink. This time, my internals got maxed, externals too.

I can´t really tell what i might have done wrong since the tanker was telling "transfer complete". It´s not that i fell off the boom...

Anyone else got a similar experience ? Anything i have to take special care of when using externals ?

When in doubt - climb. Nobody ever collided with air.

You likely disconnected due to bad maneuvering. When that happens, there is currently a bug with the DCS tanker where he ignores that the Phantom cant accept fuel until the door has been cycled again (DISCONNECT light is on). The tanker then just sticks his boom in, ignoring that, and then immediately notices that he should not have done that. He disconnects immediately and incorrectly calls "transfer complete".

We are figuring out with ED why this is happening.

In the meantime, cycle your AAR door and go through the communication cycle with the tanker to initiate AAR again.

I thought so but wondered about the "transfer complete" message. And i did not get the disconnect light at all, which was why i didn´t think i fell off the boom.

But well, i find it kind of the only reason atm explaining this . As mentioned above, i did cycle again and plugged a 2nd time. That seemed to work.

this happened to me indeed.

I disconnected once, closed the AAR door, opened it again, reconnected to the boom and very shortly after that, the tanker called "transfer complete" at 10.7k pounds.

Thanks for clarification and the effort you put into this to get it fixed. 👍

Hope you dont mind me tacking this query on the end .......saves opening a new thread......It's only the KC135 that can refuel the Phantom currently isnt it? I made a mission using an MPRS and it wont respond....

Yes, only the KC-135. The KC-135MPRS is drogue only in DCS, so it is not compatible. And every incompatible tanker will not respond to your requests.

Thanks.....I wonder how easy it would be to mod the MPRS to work as it should? Seeing as ED plainly cant be bothered!

can we stay on topic please ? The MPRS / Non-MPRS Tanker thing has been discussed over and over, i´m sure you will find a better fitting thread here somewhere 🙂

can confirm: without disconnecting, the AAR gets the Phantom's tanks (incl. external bags) filled up to the max before the tanker calls "transfer complete" (7 minutes of sweat 😉 )

It happened to me first time with the Phatom, after getting a call you getting fuel from operator... less than 1 minute tanker call "transfer complete".

I thought to myself.. "that easy". ...

Only when Jester asked about the fuel situation, I realised how little fuel there is.

Without something to aim for as in refuel F14.. Unable to see the light on the tanker, it is just too dim. Don't think I can flying blinded for several minutes to stay connected. At the monent, I hold on long enough to able to fuel back to base.

You have got your answer before my added question and I politely tacked a little fairly relevant extra query on the end to avoid spamming the board. I then posted a thanks when this was answered. Did the query after the thanks really derail your thread ? . I think not.

@Nam....I agree, the lights are quite dim, but be careful, there is probably a thread already discussing that somewhere......

highjacking a thread and being mad about me pointing that out - you might want to get your day straight my friend 🙂

Just relax.

congratulations, you have now spawned a sub-thread to complain about one off-topic comment in an otherwise on-topic post which is longer than the actual on-topic thread.

Is there some kind of award for that?

Also, the person you were complaining about is the original poster on this discussion, some might say that gives him the right to take the discussion wherever he wants, once his main thrust has been satisfied.

I really don´t see things that way 🙂 I opened this threat here for the issue with tanker calling transfer complete too early on the phantom.

The moment some posts started drifting into the old "mprs/boom/why not both/maybe modding it" discussion - which is quite a different topic - i pointed that out.

Being salty about that is a logic that fails to convince me, on the other hand maybe it doesn´t have to. Have it your way then.

lol, you are an AMAZING hypocrite.  I refer you to the first point I made in my previous comment, the one you pretended not to read.

I appreciate your point of view. Maybe i´m too old to understand what this ranting is all about, simply for not wanting my threat to go off topic.

But well, since we´re already there - and to your amusement indeed in a longer version than my initial topic - we may as well continue. Feel free 🙂
