Hi guys,

first off: I like the Phantom. It is a joy to fly and very well made.

But where is the step to Jester 2.0? For me Jester in the Tomcat feels much better than the one in the Phantom. For example Jester in the F4E is not able to aim GBUs - he was able to do this in the F14.

Also I tried to implement a waypoint from the map via Jester. He was 90nm off...

Maybe I had to high expectations, but somehow Jester 2.0 is not really 2.0 for me...

Before you call everything a "bug": RTFM & try again! Thank you. :music_whistling:

Yes the context action is the only really new feature. The rest feels like a step back, to be honest

Edit: Also the missing ability to enter digits via headtracking is a huge factor in VR, and I miss the Que Eyeball for the pod

That may be due to INS misalignment.

True. The other tries I made were more precise.

The things mentioned are all planned and will be added still. The Tomcat also lacked most of these things at initial launch, it takes time to add these complex features. And we are also planning to expand beyond what the Tomcat has. For example a more general and dynamic "point/look anywhere and execute context sensitive actions"

The brand new UI?  Personally, I think the best addition was being able to click on the Jester wheel instead of having to use my headtracking or a keybinding.  Another new feature is that the code is there so you can program Jester and more easily add things such as different voicelines. There's plenty of new stuff added that isn't as noticeable if all you care about is the basic functions in the cockpit.  Not sure how all that is a "step back", although it definitely isn't the huge leap forward you may have been expecting.  I personally find Jester to be as useful in the F-4 as he is in the Tomcat in terms of functionality (apart from the targeting pod of course) except it seems easier to interact with the system and the added context voicelines and "talking" with Jester make him seem more like part of the crew.

Jester didn't know how to use the Lantirn at first either and the Pave Spike has way less functionality, relying heavily on the WSO knowing what to do and being able to actually maintain position on the target as there is no tracking fucntion in the pod, it only has a limited stabilization feature.

Jester 2.0 as I understand it refers not just to the Jester that's in the cockpit with you, but the entire software framework of Jester that allows it to be swapped between jets like the F-14, F-4, and upcoming A-6 without complete rewrites of the code for each plane.  There's lots of backend stuff that we'll never see when flying with Jester.

Thanks, this is good news!

As I said in my first post: I love the Phantom, and now I know it will only get better

I mean that’s a little reductive. There’s a lot going on under the hood that’s new and different. To me it feels like he’s much better at finding contacts on his own than in the F-14.

Isnt there supposed to be some system implemented where Jester kind of “learns” what you want him to say and when  vs shutting the F up?

The worse for me are the repeated callouts on AoA, G, altitude... "Watch the AoA... AoA is fine"... "Watch the AoA... AoA is fine"... "Watch the AoA... AoA is fine"...."Watch the AoA... AoA is fine". at infinitum... same for Gs etc. I wonder how it was considered... OK for launch such things 😐 . A way to tell him all is OK and stop calling those like stopping him from ejecting would be nice.

There was a rumor of the ability to edit him. I sure hope that appears in the short term.

I'm confused; there are no AoA or G calls in the F-4 by Jester?

I am confused now too 😄 😄 . It's true that I am doing mostly (for now) the training missions and... the guy in the back... jester I suppose now as instructor is continuously complaining about AoA and Gs and ground being too low (I swear he is gaslighting me 😛 ) . It wouldn't be a problem if it wouldn't be so robotical. And when I say this I mean: I pull some AoA he says I should "watch the AoA"... I release the stick... immediately he says "it's fine"... I pull again... he says same thing to "Watch the AoA"... release stick... "Now it's fine". And he does this ad nauseam. And when I do a combo of Going low then a pull up of some Gs and high AoA... you can imagine the chatter in the cockpit 😄 .
