NameUt Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Hi, I recently bought the OH-58D off the steam DLC store. I really enjoy that it is relatively easy to fly compared to other helicopters like the apache, MI-8 and Huey and it has been the first helicopter I have been able to master flying long distances without crashing. I have played DCS for many years now but I don't actually have many hours as I only play on and off, so this is perfect for me. But the more I play the more disappointed I am with the damage model. On the store it claims that there is an 'advanced damage model' which I figured would mean the helicopter would have parts that can fall off due to impact or damage, it does not. The entire helicopter appears unable to loose any parts except for the rotors, even the struts during hard landings. I have also been shot many times by infantry causing an overlay of damage to display on some areas like the scout eye above the rotor but the helicopter appears to operate normally. So far I have only seen the helicopter capable of being dead or in perfect health, no in between. The more I play the more I am disappointed by this, is there any plans to update the damage model? Thanks. 4
Tigre. Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 (edited) I absolutely agree, in the product features it is clearly stated that it has an advanced damage model: Cita Advanced damage modeling and failures for aircraft systems and components Instead, the damage model present is practically hinted at and there is very little "advanced" about it, in the event of impact with the ground the main rotor continues to spin without breaking and enters the ground, the tail boom remains intact, the fuselage as well , the engine continues to run for a long time before you hear the revs decrease, etc.... but on the other hand the airbags deploy... This is all very disappointing for a module sold as "complete", so i join the question, is there any plan to update the damage model? Thanks Edited June 10, 2024 by Tigre. 4 .
Avimimus Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 (edited) I just hit an OH-58D with 32 rounds from my Gazelle... and it was forced down (not on fire)... a BRDM in the same sortie took 12 rounds to burn. Edit: To clarify - that is 32 rounds from the GIAT 20mm (not the HMP). Edited June 15, 2024 by Avimimus

NameUt Posted June 15, 2024 Author Posted June 15, 2024 The more I think about this module the more buyers regret I am having with the very high price and very poor damage module. I think theres still a chance of a steam refund since I purchased there, crossing my fingers. But I really wish the developers of the module would respond to the general criticism over the damage model or remove the 'Advanced Damage Model' claims from their page. For the most expensive helicopter on the store right now it really does not feel like it as much as I love the other features.

Player or AI OH-58? Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

Adding this to mark as Solution. They have stated on their discord that it will be updated.
