solved DCS Stuttering mess launcing in 4k monitor

Im having extreme troubles trying to get DCS to run on my Samsung Odyssey Ark and its a veritable slide show the whole time. When the menu finally pops up, it takes a few minutes just to move the mouse cursor. Alt tabbing out takes forever, and when I do manage to, my taskmanager has DCS pegged at 2800+MB memory running at 5%. Resolution on this monitor is a whopping 3840x2160. I have no problems running DCS on my Samsung Odyssey G9 at 5120x1440. Its ONLY on this large monitor that I get the severe stuttering, and Ive no idea whats causing it. The only hardware I have connected at the moment would be my HOTAS and a few other peripherals; my winwing MIPS is offline, my other desktop monitor is offline...Im at my wits end right now. Any help appreciated, and yes Ive tried the obvious. This is 100% a fresh install of DCS from a few weeks ago and no, I havent flown since then. I dont have any problems running other games on that monitor either.

 

Deleting the config folder seems to clear out the issue; however, the moment I try to adjust any of the visual settings reinstates the mess.

hello. can you share what settings after deleting CONFIG folder you are changing? off the top of my head i do not know. sharing may bump an idea.

also, as in all forum posts, it is always a good idea to post your logs. these almost always have clues.

The preset for High is what Im using. Cant tell you specifically because..well I cant get to it. Heres a log. Ill even attach my options lua.

first thing i see which may not be a cause of this issue is the following line in the log. this is not a problem but odd.

next is mods. disable your mods (A-4 is likely ok)

then USBs are being unplugged and replugged. that you doing it?

i suggest renaming your options.lua after shutdown of DCS. then restart DCS. a new file will be created. see what happens.

dcs.logdcs.logNot unplugging anything, thats my monitor switching modes for whatever reason. My Samsung Odyssey Ark is more of a TV than a PC monitor...which is odd because they advertise it as a PC monitor, not a TV. The monitor is routed through a hub via a main cable; the hub then runs an HDMI cable to my pc. Its really more of an annoyance at this point now, and honestly thought about just returning the damned thing. It reboots practically every time I alt-tab out of DCS...heres the kicker: it doesnt do this in any other game or flight simulator. Its just DCS.

I pulled those other mods out and tried it again, and yes Ive renamed the config folder because redoing controllers is extremely tedious work every single time. First run is ok, same stuttering appears after I restart DCS. Check my taskmgr - this is just when I start DCS up and not doing anything.

Deleting the config lua gets me back. The first screenshot is when its stutter free. The second are my standard settings.

interesting setup. i do know some others say the disabling hotplug helps with stutter. have a look at this post

seems to me DCS is complaining about the resolution. but your monitor from the samsung site definitely is 3,840 x 2,160.

i am seeing in the latest log that the aspect ratio is not correct. 3840 x 2160 aspect is 1.7777777777778

your log says ["aspect"] = 1.3333333333333

manually change the options.lua after renaming it.

 Im not sure if I have hot plug turned on or off, Ill double check that. Certainly seems like the fact that something keeps getting unplugged every time I start DCS, Ill double check that when able and report back. As for the aspect ratio, not sure why it does that. I delete the thing every time I get the stuttering, so the issue has to be there somewhere.

agreed. something in DCS is resetting it to the incorrect aspect value. perhaps manually changing the aspect in options.lua will keep DCS from trying to auto-create the file after deleting the entire config folder.

Tried the hot plug disabled, still get the nasty stuttering. Starting to see it now on my G9 SHD as well.

you have another large monitor? from your sig you have a 13th gen CPU. any chance you are having the Pcore Ecore issue?

No, I had the parking issue fixed a long time ago.

Went back and triple checked the core parking was indeed fixed. For some reason I couldnt verify that it was turned off, so I downloaded Bitsum Park Control for sharts and giggles, and well...seems like it went away. Im marking this one resolved, thanks @silverdevil.

good to hear. i am a sysadmin, and troubleshooting sometimes goes back to "check everything again."
