So I am having a good night in the game... but suddenly everything goes all wrong.

Control is near impossible, trim is useless, hover is impossible.

Restart... same thing... over and over and over and over.

Then all is well again.

Here is what I noticed...

loss of airspeed indication on HUD (never looked at the AS needle, sorry). This loss of indication coincides with loss of any automated control and trim. I'd take off, airspeed would be there on the HUD, then disappear. Or, maybe it wouldnt even be there at all when starting the mission.

Bug? Am I screwing something up? I've searched but there are only so many threads I can look thru before I give up and ask.

Any damage to the aircraft?

What's the outside tempeture?

When you fly in cold tempeture (sub zero) some of your instruments freeze over time. Such as the speed indicator and vertical speed indicators.

Temp unknown, issue is random, can temp be random?

No damage, this can occur immediately on entering the 3D world, after a few seconds or minutes into a flight.

I did turn on pitot heat in my last run but given the random nature of the event... who knows if it helped. I'll keep a closer eye on temps next time.

Sounds like your AP channels may be shutting off. Check if the AP channel buttons are blinking when this happens.

AP shutoff usually happens when you try to engage auto-hover at too low (below ~4m IIRC) RAlt. But there may be other causes as well. Are your electrical generators running?

You cannot see all flight data in all modes. In normal operation mode you will see the complete HUD showing information about speed, direction and altitude. If you switch to weapons mode, some of these indicators will be replaced by weapon information, thus no longer visible. They will still be detected and shown correctly, of course. Press BackSpace to reset targeting and return to nav-mode.

Autohover is a bit difficult to use, as there are certain things you have to watch. First, you should only enable it, if you already are rather stationary. If you engage it inflight, it will try to come back to the place you engaged it first, which might be a bit disorienting for you.

Secondly, you have to remember to disengage it, when you continue to fly. If you don't the trim will be changed more and more to counter your control-inputs and make the helo return to the hover-position.

Overall, I recommend to soften your input. Depending on the stick and your personal practice, I'd smoothen the input to curves in the preferences, so you don't overreact on slight movements.

However, system failures ARE possible. But not that likely. They are set in the mission and I have yet to find a mission that has system failures enabled.

On second though: Check your inertial navigation systems. The autopilot relies on the gyroskopes, so if you didn't spin them up, to my experience the flight-aids will soon be lost.

loss of airspeed indication could mean you need pitot heat turned on. Always hit the FPL button and check ambient temps before taking off. Make it a part of your pre-flight routine.

Fuerfalke...

It's not a result of a mode change. It just does it. I can be sitting in a quiet hover (hands off everything) just reading how to utilize some system and the next thing I know it's all over the place.

I'm thinking ice. Will report back on tonights results.

Pulled view all the way back so I can see all the indicator panels. Inverter lamps are flickering on and off. once they go, HUD ASI is gone and the video screen starts going on and off with the inverter lights. The simple mission I made DOES NOT have failures checked.

Going to play some other canned missions (wanted to keep it simple as I learn). I'll just avoid fire zones and see what happens. Might be my created mission that is the problem.

Ok, this clears it up. Your AC generators are not engaged, so you're flying around on battery. When the batteries are dry, systems start shutting off and bad things happen.

I agree about the batteries.

Try a mission where you begin with the Shark already hot and ready to go.

If it run fine, check your startup procedure.

Nope...

I started to read up about the inverters and came acorss something interesting on the... throttles.

When I installed BS and mapped all my controls I put the throttle control to the wheel on my joystick. That was all fine and dandy until I knocked the wheel from its initial position and took the throttle out of... AUTO position.

This was causing a fault within the electrical system thus causing my problem.

Doh!

hehe...well troubleshot...

Yeah, I don't think theres any need or desire to hav the throttles mapped anywhere on an axis.

I've only had to use emergency throtte a few times after having lost an engine...
