Pimax Crystal: Add a 'recenter' bind to keyboard like Brand X?

Recommended Posts

Sometimes my view in the cockpit gets a little wonky... Usually when I'm trying to look at a switch panel that's down and behind me, such as the F-4 or Viper, and sometimes during a spirited ACM bout.

When the VR does go off center, and my view is outside of the canopy, my only option is to exit to desktop and restart, which is quite time consuming. (Due to work/ family priorities I *might* get 5hrs a week to play)

Is there anything in development or already available that allows you to recenter the view, similar to how you press the spacebar in that 'other' game?

I haven't got my pimax (yet), but one thing I had issues with in regards to my HPReverb is that the DCS binding key would only recenter on some axis's, not all of them.

For instance, if I look up, and and then recenter - it would only recenter left-right, and I would still be looking up in the sky. Is this the same with the Pimax, or does it center in different directions.

(One of the things I'm hoping I can get away with is when looking down to input things into say the chinook's MDI that I don't have to kink my aging neck, but can recenter the view so when I'm physically looking straight ahead, I'll be looking down. Unfortunately XR Necksafer also only works left to right, and doesn't seem to have up/down axis built into it, so I'm kinda hoping that Pimax VR will have something available that will work with this.

I had this the other day.

Started Pimax Play, all looks good. Started DCS VR and again, all good.

Stopped DCS, minimized Pimax Play to task bar, hang the Crystal on my side where it always hangs, faceplate up, lenses down so protected.

After a while the Crystal goes to screen off.

Opened Pimax Play back again form task bar, put the Crystal back on. Picture in the headset was completely tilted. Restarting headset, still the same. Even did a room setup, no change.

Started DCS, screen still tilted. Recenter key did not solve this.

Only way was to restart Pimax Play.

So, a recenter button in Pimax Play would be good.

If push the bound re-center view button (in DCS), make sure that you are in a comfortable position and try and look straight ahead in the desired neutral position. If you head is way off centre line you may have to do it twice to get back into a normal position.

I don't understand the request to put a re-centre in PimaxPlay as this will only affect what you see in the PimaxPlay home and will have no effect on your viewing position in DCS.

I'm talking about recentering vertically. DCS recenters on 2 axis. The left/right axis, and the forward/back axis. It doesn't recenter on the vertical, or tilt axis, hence my original question as to whether something is possible.

Hey Dangerzone, you might find this thread very helpful.  It will help you set your default seat/camera position in VR.

Also, the re-enter button will move you head/camera in a the X,Y, and Z axis.  In addition to turning you head, you can physically move your head right/left, up/down, and forward/backwards and the new center point will be based on your new physical location.

Thanks, if you use the VR centre that you’ve highlighted there in VR while looking up and you stay looking up, does that mean you’re looking directly straight ahead in the cockpit? Because for me in the HP reverb I would still be looking up. It would resent my left right and forward backward axis but not my up-and-down axis. And I don’t know if that is a WMR thing or a HP thing and if it will be different with the Pimax.

Just reread your post further up, and I'm not sure if it save looking up/down, but when I get on my PC later I will check.

Try this as a work around...

Instead of "looking up" - try looking forward and raising or lowering your head physically by sitting up higher or crouching down in your seat, then hit the recenter. That will lower you pilots head in the cockpit and hopefully alleviate some of your neck strain.

Okay, had a chance to play around a little and I have some good news and bad news.

Bad news:  Re-center doesn't keep your line of sight, meaning if you are looking up or down it won't work the way you want.

Good news:  Another good work around.  Re-center moves your view opposite the way you are currently looking, so if you are looking 90 degrees right it will shift your view 90 degrees left after you hit re-center resulting with you looking out the left side of your cockpit.  My suggestion is that when you need to get closer to your MFD's in the cockpit, is to look up  and hit re-center.  This will drop your head lower into your cockpit while still facing forward resulting in a better view of your dashboard/mfds, while still giving you a view forward.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for confirming the crystal is the same.  Sounds like I’ll have the same issue with the Pimax as the Reverb then. It’s not MDFs that are forwards that I’m concerned about. It’s the CNIs like in the Chinook or C130 when they’re in the centre console near your thigh that are difficult. I strain looking at the radio in the F14. That’s not too because it’s for a brief moment, but having to put in an entire flight plan, etc is going to give a stiff neck.

In MSFS you can toggle between 2D and VR while in game, so if you’re going to spend 5+ minutes entering things in there’s relief  DCS doesn’t have this and VR neck safer also won’t fix this unfortunately.

Maybe the crystal light with its wider FOV will help not have to strain my neck as much but without DFR I’m still skeptical that I’ll have to look more centre view and thus twist my neck more than IRL.

if you move the view to where you want it ,save the view i think it was in views part of each plane recentering will always tale you to that saved position, its always worked that way for me  i had a G2 now the pico4 is exactly the same hoping pimax will too when i get it.

The 'Room Setting' centre is the difference between XRNS working or not working. But it's a calibration process (centre and floor height), so I'm not sure it could be bound to a key.

For Crystal users...

How I finally got things to work for me:

Open Pimax Play

Once headset shows 'Connected'-

Room settings

   • Follow instructions

   • Minimize to taskbar

Start DCS

On DCS landing page, or when in a/c cockpit:

Go to keyboard:

   •Control+NUM pad #5 (Re-centers view in-game)

If you want the IP closer, you can lean back, look straight ahead and CTRL+Num pad #5. This will place the IP closer to you when you resume your normal seating position.

If the IP is still not close enough, you can zoom/enlarge the IP through the Open XR toolkit via the CTRL+F2 menu.

If you're trying to reset the default camera view, see the previous comments.
